This weekend while I was up in Raleigh taking care of some maintenance on my house up there, I decided to try a beer for the first time since my surgery three months ago. I bought some Miller Lite because it has only a few grams of carbs, so I didn't have to worry about dumping.  I drank about half before I started feeling buzzed and by the time I finished it about ten minutes later - as advertised - I felt pretty drunk, like I had drinken three or four. Also as advertised - I sobered up rapidly, in about 45 minutes.  It was an interesting experiment and experience that I won't be trying again for a while because yesterday my pain management doctor switched me from a non-narcotic pain medicine to a heavy narcotic (methodone) for my severe chronic back pain (4 herniated discs).... What about you  guys...have you tried it, what were your experiences like? Do lap-banders have similar experiences?

I had some wine at a wedding and the same thing happened to me. I felt buzzed very quickly and then felt sober just a quickly. It was very very weird! I have another wedding next weekend and i may try some more. I would rather has a rum and diet because that is free of sugar and carbs i think. But i don't want to try carbonation yet.

So I tried alcohol about 1 month ago and had 1/3 cup with vodka and cranberry juice and it hit me hard. My buzz lasted I would say a good hour and a half.  Then I decided to drink again just this past weekend, I had 2 shots of vodka and was plastered and I mean plastered (**** faced to be frank). I was so wasted I could not even tell you what happened in that time frame. Then to top it off I had about 1/2 cup of vodka and cranberry juice. Lets just say I woke up and was still drunk. I will never do that again! Also I gained 4 pounds, so now I am trying to lose it again. I have not come this far to start gaining so I am going to hang low with the alcohol for a while, well I will celebrate once a month. ~Diana~

Lap Band on 05/02/07 with
I have the lap band. I tried some drinking about 1 month after my surgury and I didn't notice a difference. It seemed to effect me just as it had before.

Honestly.. I told my nutritionist that i like to go out to the bars and such on the weekends and so she told me to try to stick with wine and I would be fine... So since about a month after surgery I have been back into my going out routine... in other words... I have been doing my fair share of partying...   the difference though.. i drink 3-4 glasses of wine over the span of 6-8 hours as opposed to 2-3 bottles... and get really drunk pretty fast. I also experience the sobering up quickly side effect but I take it easy and steadily drink and have been able to keep a pretty good straight buzz as opposed to the ****faced an hour... sober... ****faced.... sober.... it hasnt been as bad as i thought it was going to be.  as for hard alcohol, i took one shot of vodka once and had such pains in my stomach.. i prob wont be trying that again for awhile. although, my nutritionist did tell me to try it on the rocks and it would go down easier...
