Hey everyone.......Im glad I found this forum....it seems like it might be fun having other people in their 20's to talk to.  I have just started the whole process to get the RNY about 2 weeks ago......about how long did it take everyone form start to finish? And were can I find other people in on the same "step" as me, or even going with the same doctor?

Hi there, I started the process in july of 2006.  Got jerked around from the first clinic i went to. When i found my surgeon.. he got me in .... in 3 weeks. Had my surgery on 1/31/07.  Normally it takes a few months.  Depending on what your insurance requires and all tests that you need to take.  I hope this helps a bit. Good luck in your journey.   Christine

Hi there! Welcome to the boards and to the WLS journey. The people here are great- very supportive and inspiring.  I started the process at the end of Feb. I was approved at the beginning of April and my surgery is scheduled for May 29th. (yeah!)  Good Luck with everything! Kathy L.

I started in late 2005. First thing I did was see if my insurance covered it, and what was required. Had to do a 6 month doctor supervised diet for my insurance, and then met with my surgeon who was 3 1/2 hours of 2-way highway away. I finally had my surgery on June 5, 2006 and was in the hospital 3 days, 2 nights. It's now April of 2007, and I've lost over 100 pounds. I was a "lightweight" to start with, and we usually lose weight slower, but I had met my surgeon's goal at my 6 month checkup.

Good luck with your process, and if you run into issues, post here or on the main board and you'll get lots of advice from the post-ops!

Hello Katie, glad that you found the 20's board. My journey began October 2006. I attended a seminar about WLS and scheduled a date that same day to see the doctor. I saw the doctor December 22 and on that day they provided me a packet of information and referrals for all the tests I had to take. I of course procrastinated and once the doctors office called to see if I was still interested I got off my butt and got all of my tests done which only took 1 week. I had my surgery on February 13, 2007. It was fast. Actually so fast I did not have any time to think. Good luck on your journey! ~Diana~

hi katie, i too am pre-op, but i am through kaiser. we have to go through a sixth month program where we attend a class weekly and discuss all things rny. we keep a food and exercise journal, and get weighed in each time. i actually like the program because it is really preparing us!!!! don't get discouraged, because it can be a long process, but it will be worth it in the end!! good luck..i don't know what part of the country u r from, but i am in so cal, and my doc is dr. zorn from pacific bariatrics in san diego...

Hello, I am new too.  I am also just starting the WLS process. I have an appt to meet with my PCP this coming Friday.  I am with Kaiser so i know this process will be a long tough fight but in the end, I think it will be well worth it.  Its nice to see people in my age group going forward with the surgery.
