Mandy,

I don't live near you or anything but I know what you are going through. i am to have my RNY next tuesday and Since I started this journey I have not had a lot of support from friends. email me anytime you want to talk. in my very long journey I have found that you just have to relax and everything will fall into place. We are all here for you. Best luck in your journey.

Hi Mandy, I just had my surgery less than a week ago-lap band. Family and friends can be that way for a lot of reasons. It's really common. The best thing for you to do is learn as much as you can about the surgeries(risks, benefits, complications) and to help them learn too. Most WLS programs have seminars or support groups that you can bring a guest to. Ask them to go with you. If they're still negative and you want to go ahead with it, just remember that it's your life and your body. You have to do what's right for you.  Good Luck,  Suz

Hello Mandy,    Welcome to this site. How exciting that you are starting your journey. I hope you find people who will be more supportive with the decision you have made. You will be going through changes during this process and they will be good ones. Just keep your head up and remember to stay strong. I read your profile and I could not imagine having the symptoms that you do. I hope you take care of yourself and do what you know is beneficial to you.  Take care, Diana

I agree with what Suzanna about really researching EVERY aspect of this surgery.  I found that if you can have a family member or a friend attend a seminar or doctor appoinment and they become more educated, they may tend to see things differently.  It's very important to have some kind of support system.  I really have been needing my support system more than ever right now and I havent even had surgery yet.  But as I said, the more educated people are, the more they can understand and relate. Hope that helps! Good Luck ~Jen
