Seeking some positive vibes
Hi!
I have my surgery date set for March 6th. Yesterday, I went to a new family doctor because my old one moved. She basically attacked me and told me I was doing the wrong thing and that I wasn't trying hard enough to lose weight on my own. It really hurt my feelings. I know I want to do this, and I think I am doing the right thing. However, it is unnerving to have a medical professional tell you that you are doing the wrong thing. Then, this morning, one of my co-workers, who has been very supportive, told me she thinks I am too young (I am 23). I was just hoping to get a little support from people who have been through WLS, specifically Roux-en-Y Bypass. It is not that I need to hear I am doing the right thing, because I think am; I just need a little boost right now. Thanks guys!

If your new Doc is not going to be supportive I would suggest trying out another new one until you find out who is behind you 100%, you are going to have to see a lot of them after surgery and the added stress of those visits being unpleasant is something you DO NOT need! Your Dr should support your decisions and trust that while they might know more about medicine, you know more about you and what you need.
Second...(and you sound like you already know this), no one but you can decide if you are too young to do this. Your co-worker who had been supportive and now is questioning you is probably coming to terms with the reality that your date is a couple weeks away, this is really happening, and she is starting to worry about you. This is totally natural but you might want to let her know that while you appreciate her concern you are confident that you have made the right choices and if she has something negative to say to please keep it to herself. One of the things that is going to be hugely important the next couple weeks is having all the positive energy you can get, the better you feel going in, the better you will feel coming out!
As always, you know you have total support from everyone here!
Keep on truckin you are ALMOST there!!!

I am so there with you on this one. At first everyone was supportive of me I am 24. All until I got a date now my boyfriend dumped me said the surgery ruined our relationship my parents think that I am think this is a cure all and they don't have any confidence in me. Well I can tell you what I tell myself everyday. I deserve this, this is for me, If they don't support me then I don't need them, I have tried everything else and this is my last and only hope. I will succed and I will be happy and healthly. I hope this helps it helped me to write it on my bathroom mirror to remind my self everyday. Good luck and only you can determine if it is the right thing for you. BTW my date is March 27th 2007 we have the same rebirth month.
