HI! I'm about to go in for my RNY, and I was just wondering if there was anything that happened post-op that you wish you had a heads up on? I'm was just sitting here thinking about what it is going to be like and how I'm going to feel after surgery for the first couple months, and then in the long run. Thanks to all of you for always being there!!

I wish I had REALLY understood that the weight wasnt going to come off as quickly as I wanted it to!  I was told "it may not come off like it does for people heavier then you" but it never really clicked that it would be true for me. I am 5 months out, goal loss was suppose to be 85 lbs, I am not even at 70.  What I have lost is a big difference then what I was before though. The next thing, food is your friend.  Eat healthy, take your vitamins, etc.  I knew it but didnt know it would be so hard to do LOL.  That double bacon cheese burger with the works is SO tempting!  Sadly, so is a 1/4th of a grilled cheese sandwich or any other sandwich LOL  Take it one day at a time :)

I wish i knew how much i was going to hate all my protien supplements...lol    still trying to find one i like,  and protien is sooo important.     In the begining after surgery  i almost regreted it and wished i never made that decision and was mad at myself for not being able to just diet and excersice.   But now being almost 4 months post op    it was by far the best thing ive ever done..... GOOD LUCK Michelle start  245 current  179 goal  140

I agree with Michelle. I had the same feelings when i got home from the hospital. I thought "what did I do to myself!" That is something every one of us goes through. It lasted a few days and when I started to get my strength back it went away. Do not be surprised if you have the same feelings. I'm not even 2 weeks post op now and feel back to my old self and don't have those feelings anymore.     Right after surgery you'll be scared to drink anything and it will feel weird. It feels "tight" around your stomach. The best way I can describe the feeling is say you just ate Thanksgiving dinner and are stuffed, then you try to eat and drink some more. You feel full super fast. After a few days everything losens up a little and it's easier to get fluids etc in. This is something I was never informed of before surgery so I was wondering if it would last forever and it did not.     I have a suggestion for protein supplements. I couldn't do this until week 2 when I could have full liquids. Get a can of SF carnation instant breakfast, a box of non fat dry milk powder and some skim milk. Mix four Tablespoons of CIB, one cup skim milk and 1/3-1/4 cup of milk powder with a few ice cubes in the blender/magic bullet. This tastes just like a milk shake and has about 20 grams of protein! It has been a lifesaver! I use chocolate of course! Also, 100% whey double dutch chocolate is pretty good too mixed with skim milk.    Hope I helped some and good luck to you! Shanna

i wished i started seriously exercising earlier. i waited until i stopped loosing weight to hit the gym (about the 9 month mark, my weight loss slowed down) and take fitness seriously. i wished i did it sooner. it is a key part of my new life but i spent all my time fantasizing about smaller clothes and a cuter body but not enough on just how much work it is to maintain it. so start exercising like now because you'll be glad you did. (muscle-building has greatly reduced the saggy skin and nothing short of plastic surgery will do that). good luck!
