Getting the surgery at 26
My name is Rebecca and I live in Glenview, Illinois. I am originally from Mississippi, but the Navy brought us up North. My BMI is 47 and I weigh 262. I have a 6 yr old son and tons of reasons to get this surgery, but I am a little scared. Hopefully, joining this group will give me the opportunity to make some friends who are in the same boat. Hope to talk to you all soon!!

Hi Becca,
Congratulations on taking such a big step! All I can say is do plenty of research on all of the different types, and choose the one that's right for you. (For me, even though I initially was looking into RNY, I ultimately decided that the duodenal switch was the better option.)
Best of luck on this adventure! It's so worth it! (And I'm saying that after only 2 days post-op!) You can do it!
Hello Becca and welcome! It's ok to be scared we all are! We will always be here to answer you questions the best we can and give you all the support we can! I am also 26 and stared at 337 BMI of 56.1 and 6 months later I am 219 with and BMI of 36.4 and I feel so good! Congrats on taking this great step!

Becca,
I am the same age, and also have a six-year old (almost seven). She is a big reason that I did this. She didn't want me to, as she was worried about surgery and basically doesn't like change (she's objected to contacts and hair bleaching too). I am so glad I got my band. It has helped me lose 70 pounds that I know will never come back. Even though I am still obese, I already feel much better. Hopefully I'll be able to give her a sibling before too long as well, when I'm closer to goal weight. Best of luck in your pursuit of the surgery. This site is very helpful for researching and preparation. I suggest you check out the different forums to help make your decision.
Bye, Lisa
Hi Becca,
I'm Becca too and 26 too! What a small world! I was 378 when I had my surgery, I'm now down 70 lbs after 3 months and feeling great. I decided to have the surgery after being diagnosed with gestational diabetes. My little guy deserves a healthy mommy! He is 18 months now and we are all doing great! (my husband had the surgery too) We decided to do something about this now instead of waiting until we are in our 40s or 50swith some serious co-morbid diseases. Plus we will be setting better eating examples for our son as well as future children.
While I do miss being able to comfort myself with food, this is the best thing I have ever done for myself. I'm wearing clothes I wore before I got married 7 years ago and really looking forward to a healthy life.
