I'm 26 and hoping to have WLS. I am concerned about after WLS about the skin. I have insurance but it will not cover for me to have that type of surgury, to remove skin. If you work out and try to tone yourself up while losing the weight will the skin not be so bad? I'm sorry if I am asking to many questions.

The whole skin thing depend on how much you have to loose. I seem to be lucky that things are springing back into their spot. If you have 100 lbs or more to loose, or have had children, you will most likely have skin hanging. A friend of mine started out at the same weight as me, but she has a baby and everything went south. It all really depends. But working out and toning up will definelty help.

I have to lose 100lbs or a little more. I weigh 272 and my height 130 - 160 is ideal. I have no children so that might help. Thanks again!!

Hey. i have been wondering the same thing!! My freind, who had a child, doesnt work out, but is a little taller than me and started at a lower weight when she had her WLS, looks awesome and has no saggy skin.. I dont have kids.. i am 23.. and i have to lose like 150 lbs!!!! yikes.. im scared.. i am going to be working out like a feind after the surgery, and drinking all my liquids so hopefully that helps.. but i have read enough posts to know.. thats its pretty much a crap shoot. everyone is different.

I'm pretty tall, I'm 5'9. But I have been over weight all my life so I think when I lose the weight my skin will be so shaggy. But that is alright atleast I will have a longer healthy life.

Its all a matter of how you carry your weight, your skin and how long youve been overweight. I am 27 and have many friends around my age who had surgery... most look GREAT in their clothes but have loose skin under their arms and their tummys. I am 6 months out and 45lbs from goal... my arms have horrible "chicken wings" and my stomach (which is FINALLY starting to get smaller) is already really wrinkly. I think for the majority of us we are going to have some issue or another with the way our bodies look after loosing so much weight. Good luck!

I remember asking this same question too. And people said the same thing to me. Unfortunately, everyone is different. I was 19 when I had the surgery. I had about 80-100 pounds to lose. At 6 months post-op I had lost about 75 pounds. I work out consistently, both with cardio and weights, I use the skin firming lotion, and I still have a problem with the skin. I hate it so much. I complain a lot, but I am consistently reminded that I would rather have empty skin and bit of a bumpy sillhouette, than the skin to be full of the fat like it was. I am looking into plastic surgery, but it probably won't happen until next December...

i lost over 100 lbs. and have been seriously lifting weights for the last 6 months. i have def. noticed a tightening of the flabby skin around my middle, esp. in the last 2 months or so. i carried much of my weight all over so my trouble spots are possibly less drastic than perhaps others, but i can't stress enough how much of a difference working out and specifically toning the muscles with weights helps the skin flab. i joke that i've got no other choice than to fill out my upper arms with muscles since there's looser skin in that area. but really, i'm getting quite serious about the working out and just may end up doing that.
