Hello, I'm new to the obesityhelp.com. I've worked on my profile and that is about it. I've talked with my doctor about WLS last year. I am going back to my doctor in Jan. and would like to start the whole process of the WLS. Help me I have no idea what I am doing!!

Well first you have to find out if you qualify - I see your profile says your BMI is 38.3. Typically your BMI has to be 40+ to have WLS or 35+ with co-morbidties. Second is to call your ins company and get all the requirement for WLS and figure how much they will cover on your plan. Some are pretty picky for the requirents.. like 6mo. supervised diet. Then pick your doc - which you already did. Then it is time for psych evaluations, pre-op testing, and some programs require certain educational classes about WLS fo you to attend. Then surgery! From my info session until date of surgery was only 3.5months but I know for some it can take up to a year or more. Hope that helps. MJ

Melissa hit the nail on the head. Find out first if your insurance covers the surgery, find out their requirements then find a surgeon and ask what their requirements. Ususally they are the same as the Ins Co. There are plenty of people on here who are more then willing to offer their advice and share their experinces. Good Luck Sara!
