i posted earlier about my insurance change and called the insurance company today. the woman i spoke with was very helpful but also somewhat clueless. she could tell me that gastric bypass is a covered procedure and that i have to go to my pcp for him to deem it medically necessary. since i am super anal, i will be calling back right after christmas so that i can double and triple check the necessary steps to approval. i am getting excited but remaining skeptical until it all comes together. has anyone dealt with benefit management? it's a part of bcbsla. -beth

Haven't worked with a Benefits manager, but you should go to your PCP and get a referral to a WL Surgeon. Once you go to the surgeon, they can help you get everything together for approval. Usually, it's better when the surgeons office gets everything together for you because they're used to working with the insurance companies for approval. Good luck with the process.
