Am I bulimic?
I am about 6.5 months out (May 10th, 2006) from lap RnY. I have been pretty careful about what I eat (not too much sugar, no greasy foods, limiting the carbs, not too much fat, ect), but I eat just about everything. I have noticed that I am getting sick after almost every meal. I don't know if I am eating too much or if it is just the foods that I am having a hard time with (I should be more careful I guess), but after almost every meal I feel the need to throw up. A lot of times it is self-induced, but it is because I feel so awful! I don't think that it is psychosamatic, but I guess it could be. Has anyone else had this experience? I have an appointment with my doctor in a couple of weeks and will bring this up to him, but I don't really know how to address it...am I bulimic or is the food that I'm eating making me sick? Help!
If you are feeling the need to throw up - because you dont feel good? because you feel guilty about what you ate?? If you feel you need to throw up because you feel guilty about what you ate - that could be the beginning/considered bulimic. If you feel like you need to throw up because you dont feel good or ate so much your pouch is hurting - could be from the food. You may want to bring this up to your NUT and seek out a therapist that deals in EDs. The surgeon may not have enough experience or just blow off what you say because they are not experts when it comes to EDs. Getting sick after every meal is serious - I would call your Drs office and talk to his nurse and explain the situtation - you shouldnt wait a few weeks to be able to get guideance on this!
I did this for the first 8 months after surgery. I found it was because I was still trying to eat too much for the size of my pouch. Try to eat slower, and chew more. You will eventually get the hang of your new tummy. I am now a year out and still feel I am learning how to eat and what not.
Lots of luck to you! Hugs,
Chrissy
i know exactly what you are talking about. maybe we are normal, lol, in a so not normal way. the first four months was the worst, now i am ok... i think its a combo of guilt, eating too fast and not chewing well enough,( well thats what it was for me) and possible wrong foods for you pouch. i would see what the doc thinks.
hugs,

Yet another person who threw up after many meals for the first year or so.
I think I probably ate too much and/or the wrong things (I remember going to the emergency room thinking I'd busted my stitches last year after eating skittles and baked ziti 7 months out...) after you get ****y being able to munch, you get out of the habit of small bites and chew chew chew... but I think your stomach just complains sometimes.
I learned that if I hold my tongue in a certain way, I can almost always throw up... it's harder now than it used to be, though, and now sometimes if I'm uncomfortable I can't get anything to come up. Now I haven't thrown up for about a month.
After plateauing for a few months I've learned that I'm NEVER going to be normal about food -- I used to be obsessed with eating, and now I have to become obsessed with eating healthy, or else I just munch along and don't realize how much I've consumed. So you're probably not bulimic, but if you eat smaller amounts at once and it still happens I'd consult your doc.
TMI? Sorry...
I get sick from about one meal per day and I am six weeks out. It is usually because I took one bite too much or ate too fast and it is just sitting in my throat and I can't deal with it. You may be eating too fast/not chewing enough or just taking that one bite too much. Try to really concentrate on what you are eating and the pace of what you are eating. Try to make the healthiest decisions you can. Good luck with it all.
