I started the Depo Shot roughly 3 months ago. I did gain... but it was my fault, I kinda jumped off the wagon and was introduced to carbs and alchohol. Now, I'm back on and have lost that weight (like 5 pounds lol)... I think the weight gain is a thing for all on birth control... we just have to watch our intake compared to our exercise and what not.

A lot of medications can make you gain weight... everybody is different and have different experiences. If you research the weight gain is 3-5lbs for most and thats over a year or two years (varies by birth control). I would be more concerned with having a baby than 5lbs!! My surgeon requires his patients to be on birth control for the first year to year and a half! Its strongly reccomended not to get preggers during that time frame!

Maybe you can try a BC that isnt known for weight gain like the Nuva ring or something... I know everyone usually gains on the depo shot.

Everyone is different and this is just what my doctors have told me. As far as pre-op, I'm told the pills are the only way to go for my particular case. Post-op, my doctors (both primary care phys and the GYN) have said that the injections, patches, etc (almost everything but the different pills LOL) are out. Again, that's just in my case, not sure if it'll help. Good luck!! K.

Hey there! I have been on birth control since 2 weeks after surgery and I've been fine. The doc doesn't want me getting pregnant until a year or so out.

I never stopped my BC. I've been taking Seasonal for about 2 years, before that I took Ortho-Cyclen. I've had no weight gain associate with the pills.

Usually the weight gain that is associated with Birth Control pill usage is water weight. For some, it can contribute to weight gain, but that is usually short lived. Believe me, I've been on different types of pills on and off for about 10 years.

ok, just my 2 cents.... i will NOT take the pill b/c as an RNY patient i have problems with absorption whi*****ludes absorption of medications. i will NOT take depo b/c it leaches calcium, and as a RNY patient, i will already have problems with calcium absorption...i do not need something else leaching calcium form my bones I DO use nuva-ring... i love it!! you put it in and leave it there for 3 weeks. soooo easy!
