Depo/Menses Question... TMI?
Hi guys and gals! I have a pretty embarassing/TMI question for everyone... um, I guess it pertains to the women I started Depo about a month and half ago for a form of birth control- just in case, ya know? Well... my monthly cycle was roughly 3 weeks late, and a normal cycle for a week... it has continued in a more "spotty" fashion for another week. Anyone ever have this result? Could it be my body adjusting to the hormones and what not? The second week (the one I'm currently on) would be in sync with my normal "pre-depo shot" months. If it continues after next Thursday, I'm planning to contact my PCP, but wanted to get some opinions first... I've read the literature and understand that this is a side effect, but I'm just making sure... lol I don't always trust all the listed side effects- I like being in control, can't you tell
Thanks in advance!
Jaci
Hey Jaci
Well I was on Depo for two years and for me it immediately stopped my periods, I just got one last week for the first time since stopping 6 months ago. But for my cousin she bled like twice a month at all random times the entire time she was on it. I think it mostly effects everyone differently but spotting and bleeding between cycles and just wacking cycles are definitely a side effect. There isnt much they can do (in some instances Ive heard of upping the dose) but sometimes the body will just get used to it after a while and fall into a normal cycle. You pretty much just have to wait and see and pay attention to your body...writing things down definitely helps so that you have a log for your doctor if things keep going that way. But I wish you the best of luck and hope things become more "regular" soon!
I was on depo about 3 years ago. At first I had periods and they just tappered off, but I would have spotting. What you describe is normal I would say.
However, I don't know about the rest of you but I had to get off Depo. It made me a highly anxious, strung out girl with zip/zero/zilch libido. I didn't even want to kiss my husband. My dr and I now think that it might also have done other "damage" which is making it very hard for me to loose any weight (I have not had surgery).
I urge anyone on Depo to jus****ch themselves on it. If you notice anything out of the ordinary, go and talk to your gyno I know a number of girls that this has been nothing but horrible for them (even though we LOVED the no periods) and I've known a few where it works great.
