Hiyaz!
I just wanted to say hi, I'm new to the boards and site. I'm 22, 5'7, and weight 290.4 and have been thinking about weighloss surgery since I was 19 when I got married. I'm actually going for my consultation next thursday on the 17th!!! This has been a quick trip for me so far, I went to a wls seminar on august 5th with my mom. The deciding factor for me was when I was diagnosed with PCOS on August 4th and was told I couldn't have children unless I lost weight and a lot of weight because that is the only thing that can help PCOS really. Ouch! Not that I wanted kids at this moment but in the future I do. I also dont want to end up like my father who had quad-bypass surgery at the age of 45! How scary is that! I can't wait until my consultation! I really want to get things going on this so that I can have the surgery before next year if possible. I'm graduating college in a year and half and would like to be a "normal" weight! My insurance has stated as long as I qualify that they will pay 100%! I love united healthcare!
Here's crossing my fingers!
I second that motion. United Health Care DOES ROCK! I have them too and I got approved with them pretty quickly. Once they had all my paperwork I had an answer within 5 days! And that 5 days included a weekend. Good luck to you. I'm 26 now, but I started looking into the surgery at 23. I got married at 19 too. At 23 I went to my OB to see about starting a family. He told me under no cir****tances should I get pregnant and that somebody "at YOUR size" is most likely infertile anyway. I left there in tears with a higher BC dosage and a mission. I took the first dose in the car and for the next month I was a woman on a mission because I was going to be a mommy and if it took some surgery to do it, by gosh, I was gonna. I went to the seminar, I got my referal from my PCP, I even got approved by insurance for the consult (Cigna at the time). Only to find out that my OB was right about a difficult pregancy but dumb enough not to pregnancy test me when I told him I was not taking BC pills for the past 3 months. My baby boy will be 3 in just a few weeks. I start my pre-op liquid diet the day before his 3rd birthday! (Pregnancy, Breast feeding, and insurance issues with Cigna pushed surgery out to this year) So I can totally relate to where you are coming from. I wish you the best of luck. Have you decided on WHICH of the surgeries that you are going with? This is a wonderful place to come for support through your journey!
Take Care,
Krista
Thanks so much for your encouragement! I have decided on the lap RNY, I previously was aiming for the band, but after more research I decided it was nto for me. My PCP didnt have any problem giving me recommendations for the surgery, as she firmly believes anyone with PCOS and my history the only way I will be able to lose weight is with the help of the surgery. I can't wait till my consultation this week. My husband is going with me, they actually let him off work! He is so encouraging
I'm so happy that you are coming up on your date here soon! You've been waiting quite awhile it looks like and I bet you're happy! I've had a similar situation like your OB, my prevous PCP was aweful, kept ridiculing me for my weight, said that I could never be mother, etc... So I'm here to prove them wrong. Everyone is behind me on my decision which really helps, my mother has also working on getting wls, as she has been overweight for 30+ years. She and I are going through this together as much as we can, and whenever we learn something we share it.
I'm glad however that there is this board, as my concerns after surgery are different than that of my mother.
Again I wish you the best in your journey and look forward to hearing how you're doing!
Laura
