It seems that I can't find many people in the group support meetings in California (LA area) that are my age. Usually they are over 35, sometimes I feel a bit out of place, and they always call me things like "kido" or things that make me feel too young, you get me?? I dunno. So, I just don't go, it's a bit intimidating. Has anyone experienced this?? anyone from Cali??

I agree with you. I'm in north/central cali and am the youngest at the support groups- I'm 22. ITs a bit intimidating, but I am there to learn and muster through it. I am here for ya, though, as well as this board. But, to me, the human contact at the support groups is good for me personally.

Thanks Jaci, you're right, I guess I'm just a bit wierd being around people, I've always been extremely shy. I just feel comfortable around people my age, that's just me, and I know I need to break out of that.

yah, that's what intimidates me, that I feel like i'm gonna say something wrong and they're gonna lecture me about it.

I went to my first support group last month here in NC (my surgery is next week) Most of the people were a lot older than me. There was one girl younger than me but she didnt say a word. It definately wont stop me from going but it would be nice if there were some younger people there!!

There's a group of in the Long Beach area that seem pretty tight. If you're intested, I could give you a contact name and email. And though it's not exactly local to you, I attend the Pasadena WLS group on Tuesdays at Huntington Hopsital's Research Center (across from ER entrance but park in lot off Fair Oaks and Congress). We meet at 7 pm right smack in the first meeting room you walk into. I usually only make it twice a month, so if you don't see me one week, be sure to come back again! -Kari

I think it's pretty much like that everywhere. I go to support groups in Philadelphia, PA and I'm usually one of the youngest ones there. And when there are people my age, they usually come for one meeting and don't come back.
