Hi all, (I just registered so my profile is empty.) Here's my question: What was your weight when you reached size 12? And what is your height? Here's the background on my question: I had my WLS Dec. 14th, 2005. In January, a friend asked me to be a bridesmaid in his September wedding. Once I happily agreed, he told me I needed to call the bridal shop with my measurements soon so they could order the dress. I waited until the end of Feb. to order my dress, because I wasn't sure how fast I was going to lose and what size to order. I tried to explain the surgery and the problem to the bridal shop employee (who did not understand and was slightly rude). I gave her my current measurements, which put me at an 18/20 and told her I was going to order a size 12. After her reply of "A TWELVE?!" she told me that I had to send a signed letter saying that I did indeed order that size, despite me current measurements. I was a bit miffed, but understood her position. She also stated that I got only one dress, so I could not change my mind later. Anyhow, I now have just over 4 months until the wedding and am not close to goal. I have lost more slowly than most (55lbs in 5 months) and I still wear a size 18. Also I am 5'4". I know every body is different, but I am trying to estimate how much I will need to lose to be in a size 12. Thanks

Ms. B, Okay, I'm 5'4" too and I'm a size 12 now. My weight is about 160 lbs. I've been in a size 12 since 165 lbs. (the past month) and I'll probably be in it until I get lower than 155 lbs. My rate of weight loss slowed down considerably at the 6-month mark but I'll tell ya, I'm quite sure I know why. I could suddenly eat more at a sitting so I packed in more calories for each meal *and* I was splurging on fast food which while admitedly small (one taco, one small burrito) can pack in a lot of fat and calories. I've cut those out this past two weeks and 5 lbs. dropped pretty quickly. So, eat less, drink more protein shakes and hit your liquids goals for each day and you'll get into that 12 in no time! -Kari

Thanks Kari, You gave me some hope! I was/am getting discouraged. I have splurged as well, but it's back on track if I want to wear that dress!

Hi, I am Erin. I am 5'8" and was in a size 12 when I hit 180 lbs. I am 171 lbs. now and in a size 10/12. Watch those Bridal Shop sizes. If its made in the USA then it will be exactly a 12. If it's made in Europe you will need a 14. Erin 292/171/151

Ms. B, I am also 5'4" and currently am in a size 10 and weight 150. I hit a stall at 6 months out, my fault b/c I wasn't really exercising. I joined a gym, refocused on my protein and water and low and behold I'm losing about 3 lbs a week. Good luck, keep working at it and I think you'll be there in 4 months!! ~gen

Hi, I had the same situation happen with me. I was a size 26 wedding dress for a wedding I was in on December of 2005. I had my surgery in January of 2006. I was in a wedding again in May of 2006 so I didn't know what size to order. I didn't go down to low because they said they can make a dress smaller but not bigger. Instead of getting a real small size I got a 22 (since I wore a 26 earlier the lady at David's Bridal told me to only go down a few dress sizes). by the time the wedding came I was so glad I did only go down a few dress sizes because I lost really slower than I thought. I fit in the size 22 really nicely and had to get it taken in a bit at the top but it worked out perfect. If I would not have listned to the lady I would have ordered a size 18 and been sadden that the dress didn't fit. Long story short if you have a chance to reorder the dress only go down to a size 18 and if you get to a size 14 or 12 great just get it trimmed to fit. But once you order to small there is no getting it bigger. Good luck I hate being in weddings!!! ronda

Ohh, this is a good point. It's easier to trim a dress to fit but hard to make it bigger.

Hi Ms. B: I am in my sister's wedding in September as well. I had surgery in December 2005 and am down 95 pounds. When we got fitted for the dress back in February and I was wearing about a 24/26 (started at 30/32). Now I am in a 22 slowly getting in some 20s. I called the Bridal shop and asked them can I get remeasured and they assured me that its easier to have the dress taken in then taken out. But thing that I am concerned is that the shop charges a large fee for adjustments and I still have 3 months to go until September so there is a possibilty that I can go down another size. I was hoping to go down to a 16 for the wedding but it doesn't look like that is going to be happening. I would stick with the advice of others to order a larger size like you did and then get it taken in. Good luck! JaNae
