How were you able to remove sugar from your nutrition plan- I've heard this before and I just always wondered what type of food is left to eat I'm OK with eating the same thing over quite often I just don't know what that looks like when you take sugar out any guidance would be much appreciated
I'm totally in- I guess my only question is what does in look like LOL -do we have check-ins? I'm flexible and would just appreciate the accountability
i would love to be able to have a support group community that meets via google hangout that would be great and fit into busy lifestyles...
anyone else?
Regarding alcohol use. I never had a drink in my life outside of a strawberry margarita at a restaurant at dinner. After my RNY I started drinking. A strawberry margarita at first. Then margaritas with a little more alcohol and it progressed as time went along. I found out years later after reading an article in Bottom Line Health that stated something in the number of 80% of gastric bypass patients turn to alcohol after their surgeries. The explanation was that since we lost our security blanket of comfort food that we were used to and dependent on, we turned to something else that somewhat satisfied our sweet tooth- alcohol. So though I've kept my weight down in the range of 180 - 200 for 13 years (original pre-surgery weight was around 290 ) I have suffered from alcohol abuse and am now in treatment. So don't kick yourself t o badly for it . It happens to every 8 out of 10 of us. I do recall them telling us not to drink your calories. * sigh. I wish I would have done more research on it .

Yes and Yes :-) My insurance covered it but I had to go through the 6 months of documenting my weight with my primary care physician. My surgeon who performed my RNY was the one *****commended it to me! He did an endoscopy first to see if I was a candidate and they after all was documented, we did the procedure. It's been wonderful! I've lost 42 lbs now and am 13 lbs lower that my lowest. I did go to the nutritionist and log all my food with Spark People.
I highly recommend it! Like my surgeon said, after we're out this long we need a tune up!
Good luck
Sue
I wish success for better health for all of you.
Was this covered by your health insurance? I don't think my pouch has stretched but I do believe I could use a stoma stitch. Was this done by the surgeon who did your RNY?
Hi there. I had RNY in 2005. Lost all the weight that I needed to. I don't think it is possible to lose all the weight that I wanted to because I could never be too thin.
The reason we became morbidly obese is that we are addicts. We were addicted to food. Pure and simple. When an addict stops doing the behavior that was their addiction, a new one will step up to replace it. Alcohol, opiates, cigarettes, coffee, energy drinks...etc. I am envious of the few *****placed their food addiction with fitness, sigh. So abstinence is good but never say never. Just say for now. For today I will not have a drink then I will not drink during the work week, then I will only drink on holidays, then I will only drink on birthdays or whatever. You get my point. Never is a big wall to face. So just for now stop the drinking. I'll bet the weight will come right off and you will feel better after a very short while.
Good luck and please keep posting.
Thank you Neen, that is the path I am on this week - 2 days into it. Weird after all this time NOT to have a glass of wine with dinner, etc., or a drink after work, but I am just going a week at a time. I was motivated by the poster who told me she dropped twenty pounds in two months JUST by not drinking, and that is such a short time period.
I am a sugar addict. It is what got me into trouble in the first place. And it almost got me into trouble again.
Thankfully I came across a documentary called "That Sugar Film" Now I understand how sugar affects me and why I am always hungry when I eat foods with sugar in them. I am not just talking about cake and sweets, but even the "healthy" food is loaded with sugar. It is available on Amazon Prime if you have that.
My gastric bypass was on 9-1-2011 I dropped 160lbs. Earlier this year I had gained 35lbs back. April 1st I cut all sugar from my diet and I lost 36lbs.
I just wanted to share if anyone else is looking for a way to get back on track.
