My lowest weight was 165. Since this was far too thin for my taste I made the conscious decision to put some back on. I wanted to be about 180-185 However, the relaxed eating style just led to one bad habit after another and before I knew it I was up to 200. I decided that was enough!! I started Whole30 last spring. After 30 days I weighed 185 and felt fantastic! If you haven't looked into Whole30, you might try it. It was exactly what I needed. It isn't designed as a diet but more of a "reset". It helps you find food that you may be sensitive to. Foods which make you bloated and help you hold on to extra weight. To my surprise, mine was dairy. I NEVER felt bad after eating dairy. I didn't have to stop eating cereal with milk after surgery. But other than that, I could eat as much dairy as I wanted and never had any issues, or so I thought. Over the last year of no daily greek yogurt, I have kept off the weight despite picking up some of my not so good habits again. I started a January Whole30 as a way to kind of pick up some better habits again.
It is a pretty restrictive diet BUT not unlike how you ate for a year or so after you had surgery. It is a very clean, "whole" way of eating. I am not one to exaggerate and say, "This changed my life." I've always thought it was kind of lame for people to say that after a diet. But....this changed my life. Or, it changed the way I deal with food, I should say.
Good luck to you. Let me know if you decide to try it. I'll be more than happy to help support you!
So I'm just 6 years out from surgery and I've started having these "episodes". I get sweaty, shaky, nauseated, sleepy, all at one time! Sometimes heart palpitations accompany this. Sometimes it is in response to eating, other times it isn't. It is very inconsistent. I can eat something and have no problems and then two days later eat the same food and feel like I'm going to die. Not necessarily pain, just part of the episode. Sometimes I don't really have all of the symptoms, maybe just one and this "Man, I feel like crap." feeling. If I lie down, it will usually go away.
I NEVER had these issues right after surgery. In fact, most of the time I didn't even dump regardless of what I ate.
I have been to the doctor. I have had my hormones checked first as I initially thought that it may be peri-menopause. Nothing unusual to report. I went to my regular doctor and have other blood tests including those for thyroid function (TWICE.) Everything is normal. My doctor things that it is a result of my depression/anxiety. She thinks it may be a type of panic attack.
I suspect for some odd reason my blood sugar is swaying. It is normal the majority of the time but for some reason, it will drop (or maybe rise?) and that is when I get the feelings.
Has anyone else experienced anything similar?
Thank you,
Darleen

I had the sleeve done back in 2010. I went from 210 pounds to 103 at my lowest. I am 5 feet. I gained here and there but held pretty steady at 118. This past year I've just been piling on the weight. I am up to 146 pounds!! I've been watching my food intake like a hawk and working out daily, but it just keeps going up. I met with the surgeon today and we discussed doing the bypass. He said it's the best option since I have such bad reflux. Apparently my sleeve has dilated on the top and bottom, so it's like an hourglass shape. Just wondering how people have done with the switch? Am I going to have the hair loss again? And the whole dumping syndrome scares me to death! But going back to my old body scares me even more!
yes, you will have hair loss again. It is because of the anesthesia. You have. 30% chance of dumping.
The reflux is a huge part of it. I am on a Zantac and Prilosec daily and it still bothers me. The weight gain is very aggravating too though. I thought maybe I was doing something wrong, so I went back to basics. I started logging everything that went into my mouth in MyFitnessPal, cut out alcohol, and regular daily exercise. I started with getting 1000-1200 calories a day. That was back in sept. I now get about 700-800 calories a day. But since sept I have gained about 10 pounds. I've had all my levels checked and everything looks beautiful, I just can't figure out this gaining! I feel like such a huge failure.
If you are having the revision because of the reflux, I can understand that. But I do not understand it if you are having it because of your weight gain. 30 pounds over a year is only about an extra 200-300 calories a day. Larger portions, a bite here or there, can add up to that easily. Are you weighing/measuring your portions and logging every bite? You need to be honest with yourself or a new surgery will not be successful in getting you back to your goal.
Good luck!!

Hi - well, playing Devil's advocate here and I'm sure you know what I'm going to say...it's just math, food intake vs. output. Are you actually tracking your food? How many calories are you eating? How about alcohol? I am in the same boat as you and others that post here, needing to lose 15 pounds that have piled on recently. Because I can eat more, and eat anything, it's back to the same struggle as five years ago before surgery. I know it will be this way forever and have to grapple with it and solve my issues eventually. If you truely are eating/drinking/exercising perfectly, but have inexplicably gained 30 pounds, then there must be something else wrong, hormones or thyroid or something. I think your surgeon is kind of irresponsible to suggest more surgery for a thirty pound gain. Mine would send me to a therapist.

It can be nothing or something serious. Even heart related .
I hope you were able to see a doc.

JUST what I needed to see today. Thank you! I'm 9 years out and have had a 40-lb regain. It's been a nightmare. Got back on track with protein yesterday and am already feeling some relief. We've got this!
