Do you have a hiatal hernia? I think that doesn't help me, so maybe it could be affecting you?

Topic: Ten years out

Hey, I was a frequent visitor to these forums before I I started the process over ten years ago. I was 22 and lost 180 lb: was sitting comfy at 162 from 341 my highest. Had plastics done in 2013, breast lift and augmentation and abdominoplasty with tummy tuck.

It was great until 2015.

i had very severe depression and other mental illnesses that had me on dozens of different medications. A couple antipsychotics made me put on 140lb in two years.

Luckily, this past December, I got off the last med that was causing the weight gain and have effortlessly lost 30lb in three months. I feel fantastic. I was suicidal for a while, but now I love life.

I hope to celebrate my ten year surgiversary as close to 200lb as possible. I'm confident I'll do great!

Topic: RE: Panniculectomy belly button removed?!?!

my surgeon actually got me approved. I had a lymphedema mass in my groin area and I had it cut off with a panniculectomy. It took a couple of months and some testing, xrays, ekg stuff like that, to make sure you are healthy enough to get it and he took my belly button off - I don't miss it!

I spent two days in the hospital and 6 weeks in a rehab unit and went home walking. Now I want to get down some more, but not sure if I can had more surgery without the belly button - a little curious about that!

You can find a list of labs you need on this site (I'd search VITALADY) and take it to your PCP or find a hematologist or gastroenterologist.

I haven't seen my surgeon in over 8 years.

I have this problem, too. I'm 8 years post RNY. I often feel like I need to burp and just can't. I get pain in my sternum and right jaw. (I've been seen by a cardiologist and my heart is fine.) I had my annual bariatric appointment with my surgeon this week and they suggested Digestzymes Digestive Enzymes - Design for Health brand. I'm to take one with each meal to help digest the food. I just started , so don't have much relief yet.

Endoscopy shows my pouch is 2-3 ounces in size. I have the most problem eating solid food (meat and veggies). I have days where I just do liquid protein, plain greek yogurt, cottage cheese etc - just so I don't feel so full, bloated and nauseated. I still get 80-100 grams of protein a day.

I also use Chewable super Payaya enzymes sometimes after I eat. When I start burping I usually have relief. If I have the foamies and wretching (not much actual vomiting) I have liquid/soft food for the next 24 hours.

I have small bites, chew, chew, chew and eat moist foods. Dry stuff is no good. I can't do bread.

I have had small bowel ulcers but none in stomach or now my pouch.

Hope you find answers,

Penny

Hi Darleen!

I am almost 9 years out from my surgery (I used to post on the forums a lot when I was a new post-op). About 3-4 years ago, I started having the EXACT same issues as you, but very infrequent. I usually have them when I have ice cream or cupcakes with rich icing, which I limit anyways, so I'd always just have a few bites or very small serving. In the last year, I've started having these episodes every month, not with just sweets. Just last week I had a really bad episode where I was not responsive. I was on vacation w/ my family and had a small ice cream cone. I started to feel gross right before I fell asleep, said goodnight to my husband and figured I'd just sleep it off. The next thing I know, my husband and 6 paramedics are asking me who the president is and what year it is. I was so confused, kept telling them my birth year. VERY SCARY. Turns out I was totally incoherent, not answering my husband and starting to have a seizure (twitching and jerking and giggling). My blood sugar was only 22 when the paramedics tested it. So I had glucose in an IV and spent about 2 hours in the ER, had blood work done (after eating) and they sent me home. I have an appointment with my doctor on Friday to start sorting this all out. I've done a lot of research and it sounds very much like reactive hypoglycemia. I had no idea that it could get as bad as it did and now I'm being very careful about eating refined sugar and my family says I can't have anymore ice cream - which is fine because I scared them all to death :(

Topic: After WLS, what type of doctor do I need?
My WLS was done using an insurance plan that I no longer have and my current plan doesn't provide WLS. I need to find a doctor that understands the various needs (the correct labs etc.) as I'm having some issues. Do I look for a gastroenterology doctor or some other type? I can't use an actual bariatric doc. Thanks for any ideas.

You're not alone. I had surgery 5 years ago. Last year I started to struggle with the same thing -- fullness after 2 bites, tightening of the chest, foamies. I, too, had an endoscopy and they found an ulcer. It took 9 months to cure the ulcer. The surgeon said it wasn't the ulcer causing the problem but that I had gone back to old habits of eating too fast and taking bites that were too large. I focused on that, but still have the problem. My nutritional doctor had me go back on liquids...for 12 weeks. It finally cured the ulcer and made life better but now that I'm back on trying to eat "real" food I'm struggling. A gastroenterologist suggested it was the acid reflux med I was taking and I should have the Bariatric practice change it Bariatric said no, that what I was taking was the best for gastric bypass patients. I'm sooooooo frustrated.
