Hello..I had my surgery 12 years ago and lost 140..I went from 298 to 158..I had a lot excess skin in my belly area..I was so afraid to have a tummy tuck for years but after getting a divorce 3 years ago and meeting my new husband I decide to have it done. It was not covered by my insurance but it was well worth the price. I lost an additional 8 lbs from the surgery..I felt amazing and recovery was very easy for me. I have since got my boobs done last year and I feel like a whole new person. I never knew that I hide my ugly tummy from the world because my ex didn't care what I looked like but meeting someone else I was self conscience. I did it more for me because I wanted to look my best for him..my word of advise would be GO FOR IT..

I had my RNY on October 16, 2003. I got down to 132, from a high weight of about 325, (275 at surgery) went back up to 174 last year, got back on track and now I am around 144. I had a tummy tuck and inner thigh lift on November 16, 2006 and I did initially lose some weight but it came back. I can still wear my sixes at this size since my tummy is nice and flat. I am working right now to get back around 135. I don't regret having the tummy tuck and thigh lift at all, it was so worth it to now have that flappy skin around my belly and legs gone. It was a long recovery but so worth it!
You could have both reactive hypoglycemia from eating too many carbs and hypoglycemia from not eating enough.
I would start with logging your foods using myfitnesspal and learning exactly what you are taking in.
You want a diet that is around 40% protein (or more), and 25% carbs. You don't want to ever eat protein or carbs alone. You don't want any more than 25 carbs per meal or snack.
If you'd like information on RH please feel free to send me your email and I'll send you something. Just message me if I can be of any help.
Start with your diet. Then see what effects you and why and how long. Monitor using your glucometer.
For most, this is very manageable.

I'm so sorry this is happening to you.
On the various boards I read, I do see this happening to many. Part of the issue is the "tums" since back then many of our surgeons didn't know that citrate was a better form for us and that bone mass density should be tested along our journey. I'm so sorry that this is happening. Please pass on your news to the newbies who insist on listening to surgeons that don't share best practices with their patients.

I had a revision of my rny in May, and my BS issues got much worse. I saw the endo last week, and she ordered a gastric emptying study, as she believes I may be dumping after every meal. She also gave me a rx carb blocker, to limit the absorption of carbs, and keep the glucose levels more steady. I also had a bunch of bloodwork this morning, so she can see if it's a hormone issue. Hopefully I'll have the full picture in a couple of weeks.
I think it would be a good idea for you to make an appointment with an endo, so you can get the answers you need.
Karil, see if you can get in to see an Endocrinologist. I've only just had the surgery, but I'm a diabetic and know about low blood sugar. A good endo can hopefully diagnose you and suggest treatment. Aside from that, protein won't raise blood sugar. Can you carry some whole grain crackers with you? Or plan on eating something with a mix of protein and carbs, like a small sandwich? The carbs bring up the blood sugar and the protein helps stabilize it. Yogurt is a good option also, but it's all very personal. Your best bet right now is probably to test your blood sugars throughout the day so you can nip problems in the bud before you crash.
Congratulations! Yesterday marked 9 years post RNY for me. I maintain a 105 lb weight loss, take my vitamins and see my doc regularly. I can't imagine what my life would have been like if I didn't have my surgery!
May you have continued good health and success!!
I made my shahada days ago on July 4th! I have studied since 1987 but just now converted! This is my very first Ramadan:). My younger son was raised as a Muslim (somewhat) and married a Bengali girl that is religious! It seemed the right time! I was
instructed by my doctor to load up on water because I need it to prevent a blockage!
