Topic: RE: Relationship and excess skin

Hi Lizzy girl, I wish I could say I understand your situation but I don't. In fact my husband has been against (but supportive...eventually) of each of my procedures including the initial wls. It sounds like you have a lot in common with this man and have a deep affection. I have found that in relationships things that don't initially bother us about our significant others over time do start to creep in..no matter how much you love them. I adore my husband and have been with him for over twenty years but lately his inability to become healthier with more activity is really bothering me. I'm not saying this to get lambasted by others who will no doubt point out that he accepted me obese, it is more to make a point that when we are in relationships things can change and frequently do. He sounds like he would like to help make everything better by co-paying for plastic surgery. This is a very generous offer. This is not the same vein as someone paying to get their wives boobs enlarged, At all. Perhaps is it possible that you are not as comfortable in your skin as you think? During the vacation, did you make any comments about not liking your body or attempt to hide it in any way? This is important because those that love us are very sensitive to any disparaging comments we make about ourselves and it at this point that it may start to bother him. Self-confidence is sexy, with any amount of fat or skin on ones body. If in fact this is not the case I would accept his generous offer and see what happens next. The thing about PS is it will not take away the insults that we spent years heaping on our bodies, it will make it better, but never perfect. If he is expecting perfection then he will be sorely disappointed. I wish you much luck in solving this issue, it is not an easy one- Cheers.

I would love some extra support as well. I am 4.5 years out and have gained as well. I'm just really perplexed on how to correct this. I am actively trying but need some extra help from others that understand. Facebook would be a great medium. I'm under Jennifer Statum.

Topic: 4 years out of RNY and up 30 lbs from my lowest

I have been trying everything since January and have only been able to drop 8 lbs. Then the very next day went up 2 lbs and can't seem to get the scale to move anymore than 1 or 2 lbs either way. I have been feeling nauseous after eating, struggle with constipation and am becoming very anxious and depressed. Do weight loss programs like Atkins or Keto, Paleo or low carb/high fat work for people who've had bariatric surgery?  I'm also retaining a lot of water. My fingers are so fat that I can barely wear my wedding ring. In fact I'm not even wearing it right now. Are these things normal? Should I revisit my bariatric surgeon's office for some sort of check-up? I don't know if I should still be eating my recommended 65-75 grams of protein or if after 4 years I need more or less? What about carbs? I just have so many things running through my head that I can't even decide how to eat.  Any experience, advice, similar struggles or successful breakthroughs would be helpful and appreciated. Thanks!

Topic: RE: What is your usual daily menu / food intake?

I eat Protein Smoothies. 175 calories - 18 oz of fluid - 25 gr of Protein.

One scoop of Target's Market Pantry Vanilla Protein Drink plus water plus ice plus 5 or 6 strawberries run through the blender for a minute is awful good. Wait one hour and drink 18 oz of water. You should be able to reduce your intake using this method.

Write down a list of every thing that you put in your mouth. Be HONEST.

Topic: RE: Vacation

Just returned from Europe on vacation. Had no trouble. Stick with salads and fruit. I took a small blender and whey protein powder, bought strawberries and got ice in hotels. No problem. We took a pedometer ( $19 at Dick's Sporting Goods) and we walked 84.6 miles in 9 days. Lost weight. Surgery 4/9/14. start 286 lbs today 193 lbs  Male 61 yo.

Write down every bite you eat and learn to count the calories. Stick to the diet and don't fool yourself. You put your body through hell up to this point. Be honest if only to yourself.

Hi, have you had your pouch calibrated? If your pouch is to big then that would explain the weight gain. All you have to do is an upper GI. That will show how small or large your pouch is. Maybe with a little touch up surgery, you can get back on track. Mona

Topic: RE: Hiatal hernia advice

Hi, when the band was first done on people the surgeon didn't look for a hernia. Now the surgeons look for them. They can reoccur. Your surgeon is right when he says if it is not fixed, the acid will cause more problems later. Please get a second opinion and get this taken care of. You will be so glad you did. Mona

If I were you, I would make an appointment with your surgeon's office either your surgeon or a PA on staff and get advice from them.  To add to your knowledge or refresh you, and give you some cudos, I think you should add to your exercise regimen with maybe some water aerobics and walking or anything added in for interest but get it moving!  I am early in my weight loss from end of Feb. this year but I am terrified I won't keep it off either later on so am beginning exercise after many years of doing none.  You can do this!  You have good record of doing it before and you can do it again.  You also don't have to give up all of your favorite foods you know entirely.  Beef up the exercise and just eat smaller portions of those great foods you love.

Topic: RNY and Rheumatoid Arthritis

I am 11 years out from my surgery.  Lost 125 pounds but 5 years later gained 50 back but lost that so I am back to where I want to be.  However, in these 11 years I have had severe anemia (almost hospitalized). That is now under control and recently diagnosed with moderate to severe rheumatoid arthritis.  Having to take injections (Cimzia) once a month for treating the arthritis.    Has anyone else developed RA after having surgery?     Also, during the blood work for determining I had RA it was discovered that I had latent TB and because of the injections I was receiving for the RA the doctor wanted me to be treated for the latent TB.  So I started taking Isoniazid (300 mg).   They wanted me to take for 9 months but after one month I developed severe side affects.....loss of appetitte, nauseous, dry heaves, vomiting after eating, pain in my stomach, and dry cough.   I decided to stop taking the medicine because obviously my stomach was not handling the drug.   Has anyone heard anything on this drug and how it affects gastric bypass patients?    Of course I'm going to talk to my doctor at the end of this month at my next appointment but most doctors don't know that much about gastric bypass surgery patients.   I have been off the medicine for 2 weeks now and I am still getting sick and nauseous.....I just want to feel normal again!
