It sounds like you know that you are a compulsive overeater. That is a good thing. So many are in denial. WLS is a good tool in the war against food addiction but it isn't a cure. I wish I had easy answers but there is never an easy answer when it comes to addiction.
I out ate my first WLS and failed miserably due to my food addiction. I had a revision not to lose weight but to address side effects that took away my quality of life. Since I was having a revision anyway I decided to take advantage of this second chance and use my past experience to my benefit.
It wasn't easy but having major surgery, being sedated and on pain meds made detoxing for the carbs bearable. After a few weeks the cravings were gone. Now it is up to me to remember not to awaken those cravings again by eating those foods that will trigger my food addiction into active mode.
Counseling, self help groups, OA programs are all available to help us and give us support. It can be done. I am proof. I just celebrated 4 years since I have practiced my addiction. I know I am not cured and I am always diligent not to go down that road again. All I can say is take it one day at a time. If you can, tough it out cold turkey. Keep those things that you are addicted to far away. If your family can't live without them ask them to do it away from the house. I can't see your family not wanting to support you in any way they can.
The bad news is you are still a food addict. The good news is you still have a valuable tool in your battle against practicing that addiction. Use it to help you eat less and to eat better. It is still the best thing we have going in this fight against our addiction.

Just ran across this after I googled abdominal charlie horse. I've recently been getting these every few weeks. I'm almost 4 years post abdominal surgery due to kidney cancer and large 10 lb abdominal mass being removed. I had never even heard of an abdominal charlie horse before. Hope you've found some relief. I'm trying to drink more fluids in hope that it helps.

I have not heard of the drug....but there is a link that I found on a pharmacist website that addresses various medications and absorption issues after bypass. Drug Information Group at University of Illinois at Chicago College of pharmacy has a LOT of drug absorption information. Might have to scroll through a lot of irrelevant stuff...if it's not on that site, maybe someone there can help you. Good luck.....

Hi there...does anybody get really bright red facial flushing (mine also goes down my neck and back) after taking iron? I am currently taking bariatric advantage and/or Welllese liquid, depending on whether or not I can chew on a given day (TMJ/tmd and swallowing disorder not related to surgery). Also horrible itch. I take it by itself, sometimes with a tablespoon of applesauce or similar to have something on my stomach. It's a similar experience to when i was taking niacin and had to stop that because the itching and flushing was so intense......alternatives??? solutions???? thanks
Hi everyone,
Here is my story. I had my WLS on 12/01/10. I was 250 lbs at my highest and I am 5'4. I lost 82 lbs. My absolute lowest weight was 167 but that lasted one day. I got pregnant 18 months post op per the recommended time of doc. I gained 35 lbs when preg. But I had gained 10 before I got preg. So I was about 176 when I got preg. I gave birth and went to 200 lbs quick. I am now 225. I went to doc and got endoscopy. He said I have two parts of my sleeve which are dilated (which I knew). I need a revision. Needless to say, I got an approval from the insurance very quick and I am scheduled for Aug 14. Now, I am ****ting bricks. I am scared to death. Im so scared of failure. I am so afraid I am not going to be able to keep the weight off. I know not one of you can fix this... but I need a good therapist and lost of good advice!!!
I had my Laparoscopic RNY in 2005 from Dr. Freeza at Texas Tech. Then he kinda vanished. I know where he is practicing, and I have seen a lot of references to lawsuits and him "leaving town" but I honestly need to know what is going on and what happened. I am seeking a revision and need a lot of information.
We are here for you! Come join us in our private group that helps with regain.

Take care,

I can relate, unfortunately. My only excuse is that I did have twins 3 years after my surgery... but the twins are 7 now so I shoulda lost the baby fat by now. Prior to surgery in 2004, I weighed 295 at my highest weight. After surgery, my lowest was around 160 and I'm up to 232 today. I'm back on the boards because I need to get my passion back for losing weight and eating healthy. I've determined that I'm going to have to cut out sugar and white flour because I know these are the culprits that put the weight back on - it was NOT the post weight loss addition of fruits and vegetables that's for sure. I'm following a semi-paleo diet now that I'm comfortable with and I'm seeing success with. I say "semi-paleo" because I don't buy organics that usually go along with the paleo diet lifestyle. If I described it in more familiar terms I'd say it is "eating like a caveman" - no boxed and canned or processed foods, no white flour or white sugar, plenty of meat with fat, veggies and whole fruits. No alcohol - which was really hard to give up, by the way.
My advice is the follow the diet that got the weight off you after your surgery. If it was anything like my post surgery diet, it was low/no carb, high protein, right? The five day pouch test would also be a good start to shrink your pouch for those smaller portions. Best of luck to you!
