Topic: back from vacation

Back from a week-long vacation down the shore that included a lot of eating at restaurants.  Following my basic food plan, listening to my body and using my WLS tool, I came home still abstinent, and with no weight gain (my scale actually shows a loss).

It occurred to me at some point that I just have a new way of eating these days.  I don’t eat to the point of being uncomfortable anymore.  I have no problem leaving food on my plate, taking home leftovers, or even throwing food out.  I no longer live to eat.

There was one night I went out on the boardwalk late with the kids.  I dropped them off and had some alone time.  I had a conscious thought that at one time I would have considered this to be a perfect time to sneak out for a drink, or grab a piece of pizza, or have an inappropriate text conversation with someone.  I did absolutely none of those things.  I smiled, felt amazing, went back to the house and cuddled up next to Bill, shooting up a prayer of thanksgiving for this new life of mine.

Thank you for being a part of this wonderful new life.

Blessings, Jill

Topic: RE: 3 years out.... regain

hi JoJo, I understand your fear because i am in the same position currently. I stood back and took a good hard look at where I had slipped and realised very quickly that I was eating too many carbs and fats, and being very stupid about a lot of my choices. i think I just got complacent - I look 'normal' and I live in a new country now so only the people I choose to tell know what i have been through, so i think I have just started taking my surgery for granted and tried to eat and drink a bit too 'mainstream'!!  I have completely gone back to basics; protein first, no drinking with meals, plenty of water, all my vitamins etc, and I have lost 5lbs and feel so much better (no more reactive hypoglycaemia!) already.  Maybe keep a food journal for a week or two and see if there is anywhere you could tighten things up a bit?

I don't have the numbers in front of me, but my vitamin D was high and the Dr. just cut my dose in half.  Just repeated my labs  and my Vit. D is within normal limits.  I saw the results but don't remember the exact number.

You keep repeating your blood work is fine.  I'm not trying to doubt you but I have to ask what blood work did you have done?  Have you actually seen the paper copy?  Unfortunately so many PCPs and surgeons don't run enough labs to know what is going on.  I'll add to MsBatt's comment.....I would bet your Vitamin D3 is low and PTH is high and you're body is leaching calcium from your bones.

Please get copies of your labs and see what was actually drawn, don't take your labs are OK as it's fine.

What actual number values were your Vitamin D and your PTH? Did you get an actual hard copy of your labs, or did your doctor just tell you "Everything's fine"?

Topic: 10 years out, now severe Vitamin D2 problems Any ideas?

Hi  It's been some time   I had RNY  years ago and it's been a good thing   Now however come the vitamin deficiency issues,   In spite of supplementation I cannot seem to get the D2 levels up and am suffering the consequences big time!

Any Suggestions on better absorption methods?

hi there, I would love you to please add me to this group. I would love the support as I work hard to get refocused nearly 3 years post-RNY.

Many thanks,
