Topic: RE: Pregnancy after vsg

My first pregnancy was as soon as I hit my goal weight. It was very hard to get on the scale at the OB's office and see the weight gain.... but I knew it was because I was making poor food choices and letting it pass because 'i was pregnant'. I 'failed' my one hour glucose test so they spoke with my surgeon and they thought it best to NOT put me through the 3 hour test and just treat it is if I had gestational diabetes..... I had to do fingersticks 4 times a day... ALL were normal. I hat to go to weekly OB appointments. My pregnancy was all normal.... I delivered a healthy 7lb 6oz baby girl 11/30/2012. Post baby, I am having issues because of the poor choices I am making and I am nearing the 200lb mark, but I am on the right track to fix that.

Topic: Need your experienced advice

Hi all,

I came to this forum area because I know all of you have been through WLS and would know how the process works. I myself just had it done (VSG) August 26, 2014 so I am about 7 weeks out. The question I have is; "Is it normal to have a week or two where you actually gain weight this early in the process?"  I ask because I was so happy when finally after a week & 1/2 stall I was able to get beneath 300lbs. Then it appeared as if I was going to just cruise down through the 290's, my scale going down to 291lbs, and one day after golf even hitting 289! Then all of a sudden it went up to 293 lbs which I thought was just temporary? I actually wrote about it and was told it was only temporary. But since then my weight has went up to 296lbs and I have been at this weight now for about a week? The funny thing is this all started to happen as soon as I started working out at the gym? I know it is impossible to gain muscle that fast so what can it be? Is this normal in this weight loss process? I do record what I eat and I know that at the most-on a bad day- I have no more than 1200 calories although admittedly one or two days a few of those calories may have been high fat or high sugared foods. Yet, still it is puzzling to me how a 300 lb guy can actually GAIN WEIGHT on calories lower than 1200 daily? I'm perplexed?  Would appreciate any input or advice. Regardless, I'm going to keep on exercising, watching what I eat and stay positive. Thank you in advance.

Topic: RE: Gluten intolerance in old timers

I am over 6 years from RNY. I developed a lot of new issues and allergies over the years. I belive i may have SIBO.  Google that. New studies show that SIBO may be responsible for many issues, from food allergies, ibs, skin issues, inflammation, pains including fibromyalgia, and even mental issues.. Not forget also about iron deficiencies and problem with B12...

Not many docs know how to test for that our treat it... I hope i found one - plan to see her in November...

I cannot tolerate eggs or mant types of red meat. Other than that I am pretty good.

Those are my feelings exactly. I don't think I will ever be picture-perfect, and I need to let go of that.

Topic: RE: Can't handle spicey foods like I used to

I don't feel sick, my mouth just feels like it's on fire sometimes. After one bite I just stop eating the food that's the problem Makes me miss certain foods though that I used to be able to eat, simply because they are too spicy now.

Topic: Difficult Recovery....

I need some encouragemnt.  I just was sleeved on Wed. My recovery in the hospital was uneventful and the nurse was surprised how well I was doing. Overnight my calves got real sore like I ran a marathon,  then it spread to my legs, now it is in my shoulders and neck. The soreness and stiffness from this trumps any pain I feel from the gas or surgery sights. It is untouched by tylenol with codeine. I told my surgeon and he seemed unconcerned. It has not gotten better overnight, so I emailed him again. He ordered some labs which I am awaiting his reading. Has anyone else experienced an overall body soreness. Not crampy or achy, but like I just did a full body work out. I have been sipping fluids and have taken Flintstone for now just to get something tolerable in me and we'll as pepcid. Any advice would be helpful. Having a difficult time and hoping I made the right decision.

In my humble opinion, restriction really just feeds the problem.  It doesn't fix anything, and we just repeat the same old patterns.  If you can get your hands on a book called "The 12 steps and 12 traditions of overeaters anonymous," I highly recommend it, starting with the chapter on Step 1.  I use the program in conjunction with a therapist because some issues go really deep.  Praying for you!
