Hello, I had my sleeve about 6 years ago and also saw the weight creep back on at about 2.5 years. I was up about 12 pounds and went back to basics. Dense protein first with minimal to no carbs which helped big time. I also found that I was no longer hydrating like I had when in the losing phase. Once I started drinking h2o between meals I continue to feel full longer. I got down 7 pounds but also found that if I fall off track I can regain real quick. My personal wow was when I was within .5 pounds of being 'overweight' again. I told myself I would never get there. Seeing the scale made me jumpstart my motivation. Here is what I am doing:
- dense protein first at meals
- limit carbs or cross them off list completely if possible
- stay hydrated between meals
- consistant workouts (I workout every day of the week)..allows me to justify my wine :-)
- log your food/activity on an ap*****tebook
- weigh daily to stay accountable
- find AND attend as many support groups as possible. I go to a monthly meeting and attend Weigh****chers. Since I am in normal weight range, I am Free for life now
- Every once in a while reflect on why you went through all this. It was worth it and you are worth it!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the post. I hit goal at 9 months post op and even got down 25 pounds below my goal. My lowest was 150 but no way could I maintain that. I stayed at 157-160 for a year or so. This past month I have gone up to 170. I am going to star****ching what I eat again and incorporate more exercising. I am a runner but now have hip problems so I have to find something else to do. We can do this!!
So in the past week, 2 of my post of friends have done amazing things.
One completed the Philadelphia marathon.
One is, as I type, at base camp on Mt. Everest. Yes, Mt. Everest.
So why have I been whining to myself about regain and getting "back on track"!!!
This week I began working with a dietitian again. My best weight is 155. I had to face the music that I was up to 191 lbs.
I am at 184 this morning.
It's nothing we don't already know about. The old habits lie in wait for us. Sugar and carbs creep in. And there you go.
So I am back to logging my food (the dietitian is a friend on MFP so she can check me out!). Lead out with protein, veggies, reasonable starches, limited fats, a little dairy if I want it.
At first I was very anxious - surprisingly! What if I got hungry? I hate the feeling of hunger! What if...who knows?
It's been 4 days now and I feel much more focussed and better about the whole thing.
I may never see Mt. Everest or finish a marathon, but I've put in a LOT of effort to get this far and won't let it go!
Hi, four years sleeved. I felt the same way, will I be the only one this doesn't work for? Be kinder to yourself. It will be ok. Follow your plan so it becomes second nature. Expect a lot of loose skin. Some days are better than others. The closer you follow your plan, the better your results will be. I lost 98 lbs with all the mistakes I've made, and believe I'd have done better if I'd held off on pregnancy longer and stayed on plan. Life happens, and the sleeve is a faithful friend and tool.
I am 11 years out, and I had several occasions of regression along the way. The fact is wls gives us the tool, but long term it definitely falls back on us to maintain or reach our goal. If you don't get right with your diet you will have long term stomach issues. Many of us experience it around the 9-10 year point. I have since had to completely change my way of thinking, from being a wls patient, to just a person on a journey to achieve optimal health and fitness. I've since become a BeachBody coach and have committed my life to helping others on their journey through accountability and friendship. I run a group on Facebook for that very thing. If anyone who is struggling needs support, I'm always happy to help. You can friend me at www.facebook.com/kikkipoo and I'll get you connected with the most amazing group of people you will ever call your friends
What was the complication and what is your advice to helping with those things that far out? Things have gone so well since surgery, and I am also wearing things already (lost nearly 30 before surgery and now 5 more) that I haven't worn in 5 years! I feel fantastic (maybe the pain meds are talking. ..lol). I love the support on here!!!
January, I'll be 11 yrs out. I recently suspected gluten intolerance and when I backed off eating glutens, I felt better. Over the years I've had changing food tolerances and reactions as well as various changes with cravings.
I lived 6 years in Westminster, CO, but now in MS.
January I'll be 11 yrs out. Last year I had a major complication. Even knowing what I know now, I would do it again without hesitation. In fact, if I could, I would have a revision done now. There will always be someone around you that will be critical about your decision. They'll tell you that you are "taking the easy way out". This is not a "way out" it's a new way of life. Wait and watch when the weight starts falling off, how some people around you go on diets and talk about doing it the "real or old fashioned" way. It's kinda funny when I look back on it. As you well know, when their diets fail, they'll shut up and leave you alone.
Never heard of profect bullets. My RNY was 2004. New Whey is a protein bullet. I've gotten them at WalMart and the Vitamin Shoppe. You can also order them online. However, my all time fav is Unjury.com. You can only get it online from them. They have a truly tasteless powder that mixes well with many liquids, but my fav is their chicken soup flavored powder. It dissolves easily with a spoon, but I still use a shaker just because. I use the unflavored in tea, coffee and V8 juice. The usual sweet flavors are good too. I'm just not much of a sweet eater.
My RNY was 2004. I was never much of a sweet eater and I was so tired of all the protein supplements being sweet. I discovered Unjury.com. Their unflavored is so slightly milky that it blends well with V8 juice without being so sweet. They also have a chicken soup flavored protein. I was sold! However, all of their usual sweet flavors are good too. AND, Unjury dissolves with a spoon, but I use a shaker just because. I use the unflavored in coffee and tea as well as V8 juice.
