Hi, I am 11 years post op and have had some issues with iron but not enough for an IV.

As as for the pain.  Have you thought about something you're eating causing the problem?  Consider doing a "clean" diet and perhaps add a probiotic.  Just a suggestion.  Good luck!

I checked with my nutritionist & she said to aim for 80, even though she said some have gone as high as a hundred. The only way I get that close is to have at least 1 or 2 shakes & the rest in dense protein spread thru out the day.

In regards to your later post on how much you absorb I really don't know. I had the vsg so I don't malabsorb, but for people who do, they generally take in much more protein to make up for what they're not absorbing. Check with your nutritionist for the numbers.

Congratulations on 7 years!  I need to revisit my guidelines too...maybe 100 is too much?  But I am interested to know...how much do we actually absorb out of what we take in?

Thanks for making me check.  LOL.  I looked at my fitness pal and saw that one day it was 42, and the next it was 74.  I think my surgeon's goal for me is 65.  (7 years out)

I am nine years out and I too have an anemic problem.  I too get iron infusions.  Also I have bowel problems.  Each and every morning I go three times.  Can not leave the house until it is over and with the urgency as you have.

i also have pain every so often on my left side.  It causes me to dry heave and double over with pain. I believe it may be scar tissue from the surgery where they reconnected the Y in the intestines.  My surgeon wanted to go in and look but I refused.

So you are not alone.  So sorry to hear you have that too.

I guess I usually shoot for 100g per day.  The shake I have in the morning usually has about 50g and the rest I spread throughout the day through Quest bars, meats, and plant proteins.  I don't think all the grams we figure actually absorb if we have RNY because of the by-passed parts.  So...I don't know exactly how much we are getting in the end.

Around 130.  My serum protein has consistently been low normal since surgery, and I find I feel better and do better on a higher protein diet.  Besides, I like meat!
