Barb at Barix told me to drink a glass of milk right away if it happens.  Of course, if I wait too long I want to eat everything in sight!

Yes, I think I have had a couple of incidents. Different from dumping, but once nearly passed out. It scared Mike more than me, becUae I was pretty sure I would get thru it ok but tick. Yes, watching the carbs and sugars continue to be a MUST for us!

Reactive hypoglycemia is a low blood sugar reaction that usually happens 1-3 hours after eating either too large a meal or too many carbs.  the symptoms are those of low blood sugar:  sweating, palpitations, confusion, dizziness, shaking, weakness, blurred vision.  In extreme cases, when the sugar drops really low and you don't catch it in time, you can pass out or even have what looks like a seizure.  It's really scary, and lots of our mutual WLS friends have lost consciousness.  Fortunately for me, I have always recognized it and eaten something quickly enough to bring my sugar back up.  I have a glucose monitor at home and have had my sugar drop to around 40!

Topic: RE: Weight Regained 10 years later! UGH!

I had my RNY done on 4/15/02 and weighed 383, got down to 246,I am 6ft tall female, and am officially as of this morning by my scale, back up to 314.5.  I am terribly depressed.  I have PMDD which adds to it and had PMDD for years, but the WLS actually made it worse.  Right now i am in a situation where i have no insurance and am living on really cheap food due to i can't eat anymore than a budget of $25.00 a week (seriously, it's sometimes less than that)  I find myself sick alot, but don't know what to do, i can't afford a high protien diet right now, it's impossible, but i know i can't keep eating like this.  I've noticed myself getting hard of breath after walking less than half of what i used to, i used to also be more active, but had to move into a lower income neighborhood, meaning not safe to walk(i'm alone, no one around here to walk with).   Can anyone come up with high protien suggestions on that budget?   SEriously i just can't afford more.  I can't afford more, but make too much for any type of assistance, so i usually end up with junk....i hate it.

Topic: RE: Fistula??? Looking for ANYONE with ANY experience with this...

I just had an ulcer removed as well as a fistula repair. I recommend you contact your barbaric surgeon for help. I wasted two years of my life in pain (really 6 years, but the last two were the worst) because I kept going to my pup then my gastroentrinolist. They didn't see anything with two ct scans and an endoscopy, but on the last ct scan he just happened to mention that they saw a connection between the two stomachs but didn't think it was a big deal. That was my cue to see an expert in my unique makeup. One endoscopy and she knew the exact problem. Surgery had to correct it.

Anyway, I has terrible symptoms for several years, but they were related to the ulcer. A fistula itself shouldn't cause pain but the acid that can now get into your pouch can cause ulcers which do cause pain.

You are doing a phenomenal job. My only suggestion would be to focus on stomach muscle building exercises like crunches and sit-ups. That said you really should be very very proud. Live Free or Die.

I don't have any special recipes.  My RH is set off if I eat too many carbs at one sitting, so I just limit them to one serving, which, for me, can be 1/2 English muffin, 1 slice of toast, 1/4 c. starch.  I eat 6 times a day, small portions, and I'm fine.  I try to identify triggers -- white rolls and pancakes always get me, so I avoid them.

What is "this"?   Did your friend give you a medical name for the complication?  Also, what kind of WLS did she have?
