Topic: Back......not happy!

Hello! I haven't been on in years...when there was a very active chatroom...I had RNY in December 2007 with a 200 pound weight loss.  I worked in a clinic for years on my feet running like crazy.  Recently, I changed jobs and am not sitting in a chair instead.  Of course, I didn't change my eating habits...here I am with a 17 pound gain.  I am unhappy with myself...I know that I have dilated my pouch...I can eat quite a bit.
It has made me very depressed...I have started working out at the gym for an hour 6 days per week.  I also have restricted my food to 890 calories per day.
I am so angry, depressed, and embarrassed with myself!

Yes!  I currently am 7 years out and was diagnosed with severe anemia, Vit D, and B12 deficient.  I have infusions on a weekly basis...I cannot retain any nutrients at this time.  In April of last year I had a chest port installed for my infusions after having a PICC line for 8 months prior.

I am with you!

I think it's really unfortunate that insurance doesn't cover plastic surgey for WLS.  After 4 years, my sagging skin is more troublesome to me now, than it was after my initial weight loss.  My skin is healthy, so I don't qualify for plastics that way...I just think that body image now that I am thinner has taken on new importance, and this feeling just is not discussed enough pre-op.  Unfortunately for me, self pay is not an option right now, and the thought of major surgery freaks me out a bit too.

Topic: Regain: How We Can Deceive Ourselves

"It's ok. My jeans still fit."

"It's ok. I can still wear a size 10."

"It's ok. These run small."

I've said all these things to myself over the past year. But the truth is, as my weight crept up in year 4-5....the jeans I wore at my "best" weight didn't fit at all. The truth is, they didn't even pull up all the way. The 10's fit, but were definitely pulling at the zipper and I had to force them to button right out of the dryer. And I just wanted to believe that a certain brand or type of clothing "runs small."

All of that was to deny my regain. I am tackling it hard right now, and it's very very hard work. The weight (a total of 36 lbs regain, or 1/3 of my total weight lost) is going off slowly, but surely. I'm dealing with a stall, having to build exercise back into my life, and overcoming cravings all over again. I'm logging my food and drinking tons of water and trying not to beat myself up too badly.

Who else is fighting the good fight? What's working for you? Let's start by telling ourselves the TRUTH and taking POSITIVE steps!!!!

Watching this and learning...10.5 years out.  Bad choices and extreme stress cause me to regain...ready to fight back...both the weigh and the demons!

Hi! I am a new member and have regained 40 pounds of a 100 pound weight loss.I had my surgery in 2004.I feel my pouch has stretched and am hoping with increased protein and very little carbs I can shrink it.Is it possible to shrink a stretched pouch?I get so many cravings when I am in the sugar and carbs. How long does it take for the cravings to pass?I am also 50 yrs. old and am in menopause so my metabolism has realllllyyy!!!  slowed.I really want this though and am willing to be patient.I just want to know if the tool of WLS is still there or have I compromised it too much.also, has any one had alcohol issues? ugh...It got ugly but have not had a drink in 3 years. Thanks!

I had a gastric sleeve in December 2012, and I'm also 5"4', and my weight is 165. I had the same issue, so I opted for plastic surgery. Very expensive, and worth every penny to me. I had a lower body lift, arm lift, thigh lift, and breast lift/augmentation in two separate procedures in the past 5 months. Still not perfect, but pretty darn good and probably far better than most of the average population of 52 year old women. I know that the number says overweight, and I'd like to lose 10 pounds, but honestly, I don't look overweight at all.

Absolutely.  I had a 45 pound re-gain, which I re-lost plus more, using the help of a WLS support group, a nutritionist, and the program of Overeaters Anonymous.  The tool still works.  We just have to stop working around it.

Lots of people opt for plastic surgery.  I did not.  I have to say that it took me about 6 years to be completely at ease with my new body.  I wear lingerie for lovemaking sometimes, but not always.  I'm getting married this year and wearing a strapless gown because I no longer give a crap about how large my wingspan is.  Self-acceptance is something that takes a long time.

Interesting!  I have taken 2 Flintstones Complete chewables since my surgery and have never had a vitamin deficiency!
