WLS veterans,
I'm trying to set myself up for success in so far as possible before my May procedure. I'm very worried about nutrient deficiency, and losing my hair. Did anyone take WLS optimized vitamins before surgery? And- better yet- were you advised to do so by your doctor?
Thanks!
You go girl...I saw the video...doesn't look like you were ever heavy....WOW!! Keep on Keeping on!
Hugs, alese
I am proud to say I have reached my goal but also wear size 6 jeans...now that is an accomplishment for ME!
I so relate to you! I had fears of regain and I did regain 55 lbs from my lowest weight, even with going to the gym 5-6 days a week, doing bootcamp, and making sure I got all my fluids in. I had just let unhealthy food choices creep back in little by little.(i had rny 6 years ago) I also looked into the fat blockers, etc. and realized what I have always known...there is no quick fix or magic pill or drink that will keep me from regain...I have to make the right healthy choices. I found an awesome, wls friendly, easy plan that has helped me lose 24 of the 55 lbs of regain in only 2 months! No hunger, lots of energy, no constantly planning and obsessiong over my diet. Really a good plan. I love it so much I returned to OH to try to help other like me who are struggling. I'd love to share it with you! Message me!

I am 6 years out from rny. I had a great success, losing 150 lbs. My issue: I was never full! From early on, I could eat a LOT at a sitting..for example, a large tossed salad and a whole chicken breast. No restriction at all. Also no dumping. I managed to incorporate healthy habits like drinking my water, exercise and weighing an measuring everything I ate. However, I have had a pretty large regain of 55 lbs ...mostly because I quit measuring and started incorporating unhealthy food choices. I have an incredible sweet tooth! I found an awesome program that is ideal for wls grads, convenient, healthy and doable. Mostly I love it because when I am following the plan I am never hungry! I have lost 23 lbs since Jan. 1 and it is amazing! I would love to share with you if you will message me!

I had rny 6 years ago and lost 150 lbs to reach my lowest weight of 185. (I am 5'10") Never did get to my desired goal of 170, and i too regained. I gained 55 lbs and decided enough is enough. i found an awesome eating plan that has helped me so much...things have finally "clicked" in my head about this healthy journey that never had before and I am so grateful for this! I have lost 23 lbs since January 1, 2015 and have gained a new perspective on my health. I would love to share.

I had a back injury in 2013 and it did set me back. Fortunately I only gained 7 pounds during the year of recovery. I'm back to journaling my intake every day and started a walking program. Even though it's only 7 pounds it has not come off from staying on my food plan - I'm going to have to be more active and MOVE.
The winter weather in NE Indiana has not been conducive to outdoor activity - so I'm walking inside but hoping for Spring soon so I can walk outside.
Best wishes,
Penny
Welcome back!! 40 pounds lost of regain is great. Actually - HUGE. I had two regains since my RNY in 2001. I know how hard it is to lose the regain so YEA YOU. I had similar health issues such as herniated discs in my neck/spine and a bone-on-bone knee.
Posting and replying on the OH message boards helps to keep me on track. Keeps me in a more focused mindset about my healthy lifestyle and keeping the old habits away. Another thing that has helped me is the Back On Track Together OH Group. We have a daily post where we share what's going on with us and our eats for the day. That post keeps me accountable.
You've soooooooooo got this!

Hi Mallory,
Research indicates that only 3-5% of OW people can keep the weight off long-term. I finally acknowledged that I was not one of them after taking 100+ pounds off multiple times (the 'right way, with sound nutritional help, etc). I said to a friend, I am not one of the lucky ones, and that being said, what course do I want to take. I decided to explore WLS and had RYN 2 1/2 months ago. I am still a newbie on this forum, but I have recently been through the decision making process of how to stop the yo-yo dieting, which left me defeated.
It sounds as though you are conducting your own experiment to see if you are one of the lucky 3-5% who can keep the excess weight off without medical intervention (drugs or surgery). Good luck with your analysis and decisions.
I did not think that the lap band was intended to be a long term solution, as may people are having them out and doing the VL or RNY surgery. (But I am not an expert)

I'm still pre-VSG, but just want to point out that you're on track to lose 110lbs in a year at this pace. That sounds pretty good to me! (The stall over the last two weeks could be just a normal stall.)
That said, I have seen lots of folks go back to shakes and/or up the protein and lose simple carbs from the diet to jump start the progress. If you're worried, maybe try that? (And can you reach out to your NUT for advice?)
I will be celebrating 10 years since my surgery next month. I never reached my recommended weight of 148 ; my lowest was 165 for years. I was comfortable. In 2011 I injured my back and piled on 50+ pounds. Surgery in 2012 was a partial success but the nerve damage was not going away. Medications for pain slowed me down and two years of laying around took me down a bad path. In 2014 i regained some control and got back to basics. I have 40 pounds off. I want to go the whole way this time - get to that 148 goal ! So I am back to the site that made my surgery a success in those first few very important years. You all taught me good habits, had great problem solving, and understood ! So I am here to work on this last 30 pounds ! So, if you have been here , stalled in the last batch of pounds / back from a slip up I would love to hear how you got it going... Thanks
