Awe. That would be a strange feeling to not be able to work when it is not on your terms.

Hard to believe our babies are growing up!! Post a current picture of your son. I bet he is growing up to be a handsome young man. He was cute as a button when he was little.

My girls are 10 and 12 now. If my 12 year old does not drive me over the edge before she is an adult, it will be a miracle. Her hormones have made her completely CRAZY- mean and nasty one minute, sweet as can be the next!! I told her yesterday she acts just like I did when I was her age. She was horrified. She does NOT want to be like her momma in any way shape or form...lol. Kids are fun

I am so glad you are feeling hopeful again. You got this!!

Thanks Cathy. I also joined your group. I'll look anywhere for support. I think if I shared my story on the RnY board it would scare the heck out of the new ones. Maybe I scare other people as well.

I'll be hanging around.

The good news is that I've lost 10 pounds since the last time I weighed. Down to 315. Gonna get under that 300 soon. That will feel nice.

Thanks for the reply. Had you experienced any weight gain priori to surgery?  Do you lose weight after the hernia surgery?

the fix is a short surgery to stich up the hole. I had mine fixed about 14 months post VSG. My doc also tacked the esophagus to the diaphgram since the smaller sleeved tummy was likely going north thru the hole he was fixing and we did not want it to keep doing that!. Can't say it was fun, but maybe I am better. I don't throw up tho, so that's good. Good luck.

So glad to see you back.  You've been missed.  I'm sorry to read of the passing of your mom and sister.

I respect your attitude, especially given all that you've been through - that you did what you did to survive.

Hugs...

Weight regain is common and happens to many of us.  You've reached out which is great.  15 pounds can turn into 30, and 30 can turn into 50.

Are you concerned about gaining?  Have you returned to old habits such as grazing, eating simple carbs, not (or decreasing) exercise among others?  If old habits have become a problem, then you probably should be concerned.  Return to the healthy habits you created when you first lost weight.  Check out OH's BMI calculator as well to assess if you should be concerned.

Check out the Back On Track Together OH group for additional support.

Good to see you too.

My first 50 pounds were pure prednisone. Very high doses after the transplant. I only take 5mg now and will for the rest of my life. I don't think it's enough for much hunger inducement. The gnawing awful feeling with high dose prednisone...yuk.

Your diet looks like mine was before transplant. I couldn't eat that much protein because of the kidney stuff.  Eating higher in fat didnot slow my weight loss at all.

I know I will lose weight again too. I don't have a number. I want a feeling. Mobility, energy, and to be smaller than my twin sister because I am shallow that way.

Thank you Laura. Your so sweet..always have been!

The grief was hard but the thing I think was the hardest was trying to get back to work after transplant and not being able to do it. I'm now retired by disability. It's a weird thing not to work. I've worked since I was 16. I really loved being a nurse. So I had to grieve all that stuff too. I gave myself a break in not worrying or even really being mindful of what I ate/weighed. It was deliberate. Isn't that crazy but that's where I was. It's feels good to be feeling myself, feeling hopeful, and feeling ready to be mindful of eating and moving.

I had an upper GI today and it showed I still have a very small pouch. The one rule I stuck with was not drinking with eating. I think it helped.

I'll stick around and will love forward to seeing you. (your girls must be teen angels by now..mine is 13 and taller than me)

hugs.. glad you are back.. sorry about your mother and your sister..

The weight... yea.. that is not cool- but with right attitude, dedication and diet - you can lose it again.

I am on daily steroid. My situation is nothing like you, but even the small amount of daily cortisone makes me hungry and elevates my BS.. I also have insulin resistance.

what works for me is LCHF diet - low carbs - higher fat diet - moderate proteins.  Low carbs - it keeps my insulin rather low,  moderate proteins (and not too many at one time) -prevents my body using proteins and turning them into sugar, and the fat - well.. it taste good,.keeps my body happy and even on steroids - carbs my appetite..

I do need to remember to take extra magnesium and salts...

Hugs, Deb!! I am so sorry for the loss of your mother and sister. You have been through so much. I cannot even imagine. And I agree you did what you had to to survive. Before my RNY when my dad was dying I gained 100 pounds but like you it was my coping mechanism.

It sounds like you have a great plan in place to help you lose the excess weight again. You know your mom and sister want you to live a long healthy life.

Stick around. We have missed you!!
