Topic: RE: weight regain 7 years out RNY done May 15 2007 Help! Where do I start?

Marly I had RNY in July 2009 and had regained 35 lbs. Since mid November (yes, the holiday season) I have lost 25 of the 35 lbs. How?

Drink all my water.

Eat protein first.

No refined carbs. No sugar.

Limited fruits - no more than 2 servings a day, most often just 1.

Lots of veggies.

Record my food intake. Be honest.

I meet with my dietitian weekly which helps a lot. I'd "started" time after time, only to stray before the end of the day. Facing the regain is emotional and scary but you CAN do this!

Hello,

Today I had my yearly followup with Dr. Dakin at NY Presbyterian in NYC. I usually go to Dr. Dakin or Dr. Pomp every March on my surgery anniversary. They give me the blood workup & I just go to Quest Labs to have my blood drawn. All my labs were fine. I don't do anything special. I pretty much eat what I want. Just make sure I take all my vitamins. Best of Luck! Dawn : )

Anyone had this problem?  I'm almost 9 years out (RNY) and wondering if my recent endoscopy finding of inflammation in this area is the beginning of a marginal ulcer.  My follow-up appointment isn't until tomorrow...

Topic: 5 Year Surgiversary

I had my 5 year post-op RNY check up with my my Bariatric surgeons office on March 19, 2015. My doctor is still very impressed with my success. My labs came back great in all areas except low Ferritin (Iron Deficient Anemia) that developed this last year after 2 knee replacement surgeries in 2014.

I eat 1800 calories a day to maintain my weight loss of 199 pounds at my current weight of 132 pounds. My height is 5'4". I am 60 years young.

I had not weighed myself for one year since my last 4 year post-op appointment. I rely on how my clothes fit (jeans) to determine where I am with my weight.

As always, I continue to follow all the rules. I have never swayed from my healthy eating plan that I developed. I eat every 2 to 3 hours. Every meal and snack I consume includes protein, whole grains and vegetables or fruit.

I am a Lacto-Ovo Vegetarian. I eat at least 100 grams of protein a day. I eat dairy products (cheese, yogurt) and I occaisionally eat eggs. I eat simple carbohydate fruit. I eat complex carbohydrate beans, vegetables and whole grains. I do not and have never counted daily carbohydate grams. I take all of my supplements and drink 64 ounces of liquids minimum.

Maintaining the weight loss is where discipline and dedication have to take center stage. Thankfully, I am blessed with both of those attributes. I am very diligent and stick to a strict eating plan that I have developed with my personal tastes in mind. Adherence to weight loss initially, and then maintenance, is not for the faint of heart and it requires a complete lifestyle change.

I now participate in an exercise program I developed for myself that fits my lifestyle and interests. I have Rheumatoid Arthritis, Osteoarthritis and have Thyroid issues. I am in constant motion and have boundless energy. I had right knee replacement surgery on July 23, 2014 and left knee replacement surgery on November 18, 2014.

I have not had plastic surgery, nor do I plan on having it. Yes, I do have some stretched skin on my abdomen and thighs, but not enough to warrant the pain and expense of surgery. At my age, if a potential suitor can’t deal with physical flaws, then move on down the road...LOL

I honestly feel that because I have always followed the rules, that I am a Vegetarian, and that I never restricted my calories to an extreme during the “Honeymoon” period, is why I am so successful. I do not do an excessive exercise program and I have tailored it to my age and health issues. I believe weight loss begins in the mind, not the stomach.

Deciding to have the RNY surgery was one of the best decisions I have ever made and I am thankful each day for the the success I have achieved. Please see my profile page if interested for it will give you more details about me and my RNY lifestyle.

I do not believe it stretches anything, but since you posted a few days ago about wanting to lose weight, I would try giving it up and see if it stops your cravings and helps you stay on plan. Many people drink soda with no ill effects, but I believe it does affect some of us negatively.

Topic: RE: How much should I be able to eat at a single sitting? 8 yrs out

I am doing a program called Take Shape For Life. It is not a "magic pill" or quick fix, but a nutritionally sound, doctor created program. Basically, you eat 5 small pre-packaged "meals" per day-one every 3 hours. Each meal is equally balanced in calories, protein, fat, fiber, vitamins and minerals etc. so your body responds so well to it! Along with the 5 pre-packaged meals you also eat one lean and green meal per day. (5 and 1 plan****il you reach your goal, then you transition into maintenance. All with the help and encouragement of a personal health coach! I have now lost 31 lbs since Jan.2 and hope to start transitioning into maintenance in about 10 more lbs! I am seldom hungry and have energy to burn! I think I have finally resolved my unhealthy relationship with food. Please visit my website for more information!  Highway2Health.tsfl.com     There really is an answer to our food issues and regain!
