Topic: Venting -- Truth?

I was in the ER with my daughter last night.  She is 21 years old, 5'2" and 345 pounds (at last weigh-in).  She pulled something in her back when bending over repeatedly.  Everyone (okay, not everyone) seems to believe that her back strain is related to her weight.  That is the thing they blame.  I remember when I was heavy, anything I had wrong with me was related to my obesity.  Used to **** me off.  Like thin people never get diabetes, high blood pressure, back strain, sciatica, knee pain, heel spurs, GERD, etc.  I could feel my daughter's defensiveness.  Of course, now that I've had the surgery and lost 140 pounds, I don't have any of the above ailments, so maybe there is something to this tie-in with obesity.  Also, even as I am writing this I realize that the only person who said this out loud was my daughter.  I thought it, and my fiancé said it to me, but not to my daughter.  The ER staff said NOTHING about her weight.  Seems that a lot of this is in my own head.  Interesting.

Parathyroid.  It, in combination with the serum calcium level tells you whether your body is getting enough calcium or whether it is pulling calcium from your bones into your blood.

14 years out; 190 pounds lost, 165 pound loss maintained

Congratulations on your success.  My 7th anniversary is in July this year.  I regained a few lbs. and am working to get those off plus I would like to lose 20 more.  I've been very happy with the surgery.  I too dump on sugar and high fat foods.  A great motivator for NOT eating such things.  Occasionally, I have a 1/2 cup of ice cream but only if the sugar is low.  I really don't miss it at all.  Never thought I could pass up Rocky Road.

I've not added pictures to a message so can't help you there.

Hi all,

I had the roux-ny surgery in Nov 2005.  I weighed about 260 lbs at 5'5" tall.  It was one of the best choices I've ever made.  I have been very successful at keeping the weight off- I have fluctuated- I initially got down to 175 about a year after surgery- but I have lost more over time...currently at about 135- the lowest I have ever been in my adult life.  There have been times of great compliance and times of "me do it my way".  I know for me that the vertical sleeve or band methods would not have been a good choice for me because there is no doubt that the intestinal change has been what has made me this successful.  I still can "dump" from high fat/sugar foods- and if I eat too much or too fast I can still feel crampy and uncomfortable after.  I can eat everything.....and certain foods (like high fat ice creams) only in small amounts.  I stop by this site every once in a while to stay inspired but as I am coming to the milestone time I thought I would post something.  How do I add photos?   It's been a long time.....

Topic: RE: Severe abdominal bloating for the last 3 years... Why???

I get a bad build up of bad bacteria in my intestines.  The only thing that fixes it is a round of Flagyl.  You can then add a good probiotic.  It should take 90-95% of your gas a bloating away.  Granted I'm a DSer, but generally gas and bloating are from eating foods that no longer agree with you or bad bacteria.

I saw a plant based protein drink at Sams - don't remember the name.  I use Optimum Eggwhite protein shakes, no whey or soy.

Head over to the Duodenal Switch Forum and start checking in with the Bites and Vits to help stay on track.  Back to basics with the DS is protein, protein, protein and cut your carbs to 20-30grams.  There's a FB DS group that's using Intermittent Fasting and they are really dropping weight.

Definitely time to see the doc. Might be something other than the activia going on.
