Thanks for the encouragement! I'm actually already being treated for bacterial overgrowth, but the constant rounds of 30 days of doxycycline seem to make me feel worse. I'm thinking about going the probiotic route rather than the antibiotic one. Which works best for you? Have you worked with essential oils at all? They're helping a little. Sounds like we're on a similar diet.
Are you having any of the sane bile duct issues? Ever heard of this new procedure with the g-tube that they want to try? It seems so strange to me.
Many thanks, Shari
Google SIBO.. It was a challenge to find a doc who takes insurance and knows about that. Try to find a doc that studied "functional medicine". It it's rather New field. I was tested for food allergies and once I eliminated foods and spices (i.e. vanilla) from my diet, things got much better. Getting treated for SIBO and Candida helped a lot.
Being very mindful what I eat, and when, made a huge difference.
I have been dealing with food allergies, intolerance. Lots of gut pain, acid, eventually... iBS-C.
My way to deal with all of that is very strict diet ( strict- not borring), daily Miralax - to make sure my guts are moving.
I am on Low carb, grain free, low FODMAP diet (Google FODMAP). I don't eat low fat. Fat helps me. Good fat, bacon, coconut, nuts... Etc.
Not only my gut pain improved, but since starting that, even my iron got better. And my proteins cold not be better.
SIBO can affect everything in your body, including inflamation (fibromyalgia, joints ) skin - roseacea, mind - depression, anxiety, etc... And physical - anemia, low B12. Low minerals, etc. Plus more severe RH (reactive hypoglycemia) - I know I have that.
There are studies that indicate that post op RNY - long term - we may be prone to get SIBO. That and age...
I am lucky that I still can eat eggs, fish, meat, nuts. Plus some veggies.
I try to limit what I eat that can feed the bacteria in my small intestine. I avoid fruits, raw veggies., beans, grains, too much fiber. I love that food,, but the side effects are too much. ( pain, gas).
I take lots of lots of vit C. Plus l-glutamine. That suppose to help heal inflammation in my gut, reducing leaky gut, and help with food allergies.
I hope you can find answers.

I am having all sorts of GI problems now that started after my 10th anniversary and have been escalating the past couple of years. I ended up in the hospital for three weeks last year while they tried to prove I didn't have a bile duct stone 11 years post RNY and cholestectomy. I did. They lacerated my spleen, I needed a blood transfusion and ended up with other complications. Not fun.
I've always had GERD and lactose-intolerance even before the surgery. Now, I have an ulcer, a gastro to gastro fistula and multiple food allergies. In addition, my LFTs are increasing again with a dilated bile duct and right side pain. They like to call me special and the poster child for RNY complications. I am not amused.
I have lost about 30 lbs this year on the allergen elimination diet and am told not to lose more. My iron deficiency anemia is resolved, but now I have hemolytic anemia. The surgeon who opened me up for the ERCP last year is unwilling or unable to do so again. So, they want to put in a g-tube, let it heal for a few weeks in the remnant stomach, then perform the ERCP via the tube and remove it after. I feel like a science experiment.
I've made an appointment at the Mayo Clinic. Can they, will they help me? Is this normal 12 years later? Anyone else going through this?

I, too, have reactive hypoglycemia. I sleep 12 hours at times with no problems. I have not heard of insulinoma, but I would trust your doctor and follow whatever plan she puts you on. She obviously is aware of your condition and what it will take to control it. Best of luck! God Bless!
Laura
I was wondering if anyone here has this complication? http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Insulinoma
I was just told 3 days ago that I have this and I'm scared to DEATH. I'm convinced I'm gonna die. I'm an EXTREMELY nervous person by nature, I have panic AND anxiety disorder. I live in Massachusetts and am going to the Joslin Diabetes Center, which people come from all over to go to. I'm seeing Dr. Mary Patti. I'm afraid I've made this worse for myself, as I was first told I had Reactive Hypoglycemia, and I missed a bunch of appts with her due to a family emergency and frankly out of sheer nervousness. I'm afraid to sleep because who the heck stays up all night to eat every 2 hours? That's what I've been doing all day for the past 2 days....today makes day 3. I eat every 2&1/2 to 3 hours. I'm eating more healthy fats. Nuts, eggs (which I hate), haddock, chicken, peanut butter, & I put ground flaxseed in & on pretty much everything. I even peeled an orange yesterday and dipped it all in the flax. I'm scared to death and even though I wouldn't wish this on anyone, I'm assuming that there are many other RNY patients that have this. I guess I'm looking for people that have this to please give me some advice and possible positive reassurance. I drink Click coffee shakes and put flax in that. I drink South Beach shakes and put flax in those. I'm losing weight, probably because I'm eating healthier and also because my nerves have me in the bathroom constantly....TMI (sorry).......
Thank you all in advance,
Melissa
Glad you are nipping it in the bud!
It took me 32 pounds to finally say enough. Finally have gotten rid of 16 pounds so far.
No fad diets, just get back to the basic post op rules.
Protein first, then some veggies and if you can tolerate a small amount of fruit
Liquids, no drinking 30 minutes before or 30 minutes after meals. some times I wait 60 minutes if I still feel full.
Start moving more
No uplanned snacking
Journaling. This was the toughest for me, I started journaling again. I finally broke down and start using my fitness pal. I also think that this is the biggest help for me to stop my grazing and mindless eating.
Most days I do well calorie wise and some days way over, but this is maintenance, I have to look at the good bad and ugly! Just another tool I guess for me to use.
We can do this Laura!

You did the hard part! You admitted you need to change and you sought help. Good for you! How have you been doing since April?
I am trying to stop my regain pattern as well. I have 20 to lose. I am going back to the basics of protein and veggies first, no drinking until 30-60 min after eating, increase water to at least 64oz, reduce refined sugar. It's not easy, but we have this tool that is there to help us if we let it. I did a version of the liquid diet (just soft foods to remember how my pouch feels) yesterday and lost 3lb water weight. I am hungrier today, but I am motivated to keep going on the right path. You are not alone!
Most people have diarrhea after gallbladder surgery, due to bile being dumped into the gut continuously. Constipation isn't usually related to gallbladder removal. It also isn't usually related to weight gain, more the opposite.
Taking bile supplements would probably increase digestion and may lead to weight gain.
One thing, since you don't have to worry about the pain fat in your diet would cause with gall stones, you might up the fat you eat. That almost always helps with constipation, and start you losing a pound or two. It generally worked for me.
For some people high calcium doses cause kidney stones, high protein doesn't.
If you have renal failure, high protein is not recommended, otherwise you won't absorb enough to damage kidneys.
