You can always just say that you have lost a significant amount of weight.... at this point maybe he doesn't need to know "how".  If your relationship progresses you may consider telling him eventually.  Besides, you are not lying.  You DID loose a lot of weight , by eating right and exercising.  You can talk about your tool later if you are comfortable.  Just my thoughts.  ; )

Dr. Marymor at Barix is her surgeon.  Not sure about the nutrition on clear liquids, but it's only for a really short time -- a couple of days if I remember correctly.  I'm not doing that crazy 10-day pre-surgery liquid diet though.  I didn't have to do that with Dr. Pupkova.  I did tell Amy I would do "liquid" dinners with her during that time, but that can include my yogurt, etc.

Just one question - can you get enough nutritionally on clear liquids? I wish your daughter all the best. Will she be working w/ a Barix doctor?

My daughter was just approved for gastric sleeve surgery.  I imagine she will get a date next month.  In order to give her as much support as possible, I have volunteered to follow the post-surgery course with her -- clear liquids, full liquids, pureed foods, soft foods, super small portions of real food.  I am 8 years out and often eat a lot more than I could right after surgery.  I'm actually looking forward to this kind of re-start, although I don't think I would have ever attempted it on my own.

Diet is always the problem.  :::sigh::: 1700 calories is a lot for a WLS post-op person.  I eat around 1400 and I'm happy with my weight, even if it is not what my ultimate goal used to be.  You probably CAN make yourself eat during the day.  Try and remember how you ate after surgery.  I know I eat 6 times a day, small amounts.  I'm never actually hungry.  I, like others, also track my food.  I write everything down and turn it into an accountability partner at the end of each day.  Anything with calories gets recorded.  I also track my emotions, fears, resentments, etc. so I can see what sometimes causes me to eat unwanted food.  Not eating enough can cause a stall in weight loss, but it won't permanently derail it.  Eventually your body has to let go of the weight if that truly is the case.

Topic: RE: 8 years out need help

I had my surgery in May of 2007 and am maintaining a weight loss of 140 pounds.  I had a regain of 45 a few years back, but managed to take it back off plus a little more using some simple tools in conjunction with my WLS tool.  Support group was key for me -- hearing from others, remembering what it was like to eat like a post-op, etc.  I worked with a dietician from my surgeon's office to come up with a plan that worked for me.  I choose not to give up carbs or even white flour, because I can eat them in limited quantities.  I did, however, have to give up all sugar.  I attended Overeaters Anonymous for a while, and still work that program online today.  That helped me out phenomenally when it came to getting my head in the game.  I rarely experience times when I can't get in my food, but when it does happen, I just back off from that meal.  I'm usually fine within another meal or two.  I've never correlated that to a time of year though.  I would say I would be concerned if it continued and you were unable to get in enough protein or your blood work showed problems.  I do get blood work done, including vitamin levels, once a year, and so far everything has been fine, except for some vitamin D deficiency.

I am fine w/both... I don't drink milk anymore, if I had in the morning it would make me sick.. but that was even pre-surgery... I use almond milk now. Most of my dairy comes in the form of cheese, cottage cheese, yogurts which I am fine w. I can tolerate alcohol fine but have cut back on it quite a bit.. sticking mainly to beer/wine, the liquor hits me way too hard.

Jennifer, I think my recent issues are due to dairy and alcohol. Can you tolerate either?

I try and follow a "clean eating' diet... staying away from pre-packaged/pre-boxed foods and making things from scratch as much as possible. I only buy uncured meats, mainly organic meats and veggies and get my eggs locally. I recently moved and previously I grew a majority of veggies on my patio garden.. this year I have a friend growing some things for me in her garden. I try and limit eating out to once a week, maybe twice and I still buy some "junk" foods but try and only eat them a few times a month. I will say I eat pizza once a week.. I loooooooooove pizza... good greasy NY style pizza (lol). I try and stay away from fast food as well, I will eat now and then, typically chikfila and do their grilled chicken or grilled chicken salad. My goal was to try and eat "normally" and be healthy and balanced.. I never wanted to say something was off limits but wanted to learn how to have a balance and still have treats etc so I didn't feel deprived or denied etc. On Sunday's I spend time preparing some foods/snacks and putting them in smaller containers so when I make my lunch in the morning I can just grab and go, or if I want a snack its quick and easy... I find putting time in on Sunday preparing things for the week makes it easier to make healthy choice instead of a convenient choice.
