I am almost 8 yrs out, much of what you have mentioned I have had as well. I had a bowel obstruction 4 months post surgery and still have a hernia from that that has not been fixed. I too did not get to goal weight, far from it, lost about 80lbs and have gained back about 35 of it. I have tried diet after diet, nutritionists, weight loss programs and nothing seems to get me even back to post surgery weight. I had considered revision a number of years ago but it never came to pass. I still would like to do it. As far as a full feeling, I do still get that at times, I also sometimes feel as though there isn't enough saliva to get the food down, I find that if I have been drinking many shakes or slider foods the feeling intensifies. If you are still experiencing not being able to eat it's worth checking out. I recently went to an apt with a family member and they don't even do RNY anymore, which then made me wonder what is so wrong with the rny and what can I do now.
Hi Kristi
What did you do to lose the 50 lbs. I'm 13 years post RNY and have gained back 40. Write me on my regular email if you can [email protected]
Thanks
Hedy
Congratulations... I am 13 years out and 113 down and 40 up since my surgery in 2002. Frustrated for sure but i also hate when people say.... I want to do it on my own and not take the "easy way" of surgery. What a crock. First of all.... It is me, always doing it on my own. 2nd.... long term issues of osteoporosis, anemia are not fun and certainly not easy. I know the truth and that is.... This is life altering and even with the problems.... I would do it again....
How did the 5 day pouch test go? I'm thinking of trying it. Mixed reviews. I had RNY in 2002, kept weight off until 2007 when I had hysterectomy and gained 35 lbs slowly. Now, its 2015 and I have 40 lbs to lose. Have to remember I'm still 113 lbs down since original surgery
While I haven't been in exactly that situation, I've worked away from home and put in long, long days. It's hard.
So what I'd do is take the notion of packing a lunch to a whole new level. I'd pack a picnic basket! I have to eat every 3 hours or so and if I get too hungry, I find myself eating everything in sight. Stress can make me eat....but so can fatigue and my guess is that you're just plain tired with this schedule!
Not sure what your breaks look like, but I'd plan for about 5 meals/snacks within your work day and pack it all. Choose foods you like on balance with those that are very filling (for example, I find that hard boiled egg whites are super filling protein even if not exciting, and very easy to eat on a quick break at work.) Maybe one meal could be a shake (ready to drink grab and go - no mixing).
And if you get a longer "lunch" break, consider taking yourself out and treating yourself a little a couple of times a week, if it's logistically possible - a chopped salad at subway with a touch of lite mayo for dressing, an "under 550" calorie meal at Applebees which will likely cover you for 2 meals, etc. But leave nothing to chance and make choices carefully if you go out!
PS ~ Also pack your water bottles so you get plenty of fluids in.
Hi, Halfgitana,
I also had RNY but I am ten years out - haven't been around on these boards for a while. There are so very many things that can contribute to fatigue that it's hard to say. Are you getting enough sleep? Are you getting enough protein? Are you having summer allergies? I also feel best when my iron levels are a little higher but can tend to let myself get a little dehydrated if I'm not careful. That can lead to fatigue, headaches, lots of things, especially in the summertime. I guess what I'm saying is, definitely don't ignore this but don't limit your assumptions to iron - we can have non-bypass issues, too.
Take care,
Kitty
I am looking for a little input from those out there that work a great deal of hours. For the past couple of months I have been working most days from 8 in the morning until 10-11 at night and am struggling in the weight dept. I have gained about 10 lbs in the last two months and would now like to lose those plus another 10 lbs that I already needed to lose. Any advice on what I should do?? Keep in mind that my hours are going to continue to be like this for at least a couple of more months. I know that exercise would be great but honestly I am sooo tired I am about to drop as it is and I am just not going to be able to do that right now.
Thanks for any input you give!!!
I am also 8 years out and have regained about 30 pounds. I just can't believe I allowe myself to do that! I am currently exercising daily, eating 3 healthy meals and three snack meals, watching sugar intake and I WILL lose these pounds! I am considering starting on Plexus. Any thoughts about that?
SoDelicious makes a "yougurt" that is non-dairy. It's actually cultured almond milk. It's very good.
May be seasonal allergies. When we get congested - it affects everything.
