Hi,
I started at 257 and got down to 239 before my surgery. I have lost 56 pounds since my surgery on 2/15. My target goal is 138. Is plastic surgery always necessary after you lose 100 pounds ? I know everyone is different, but I would like to hear from people that start weight and end weight are similiar to mine to find out what their experiences were like. It seems like so many people have to get plastic surgery to get rid of the skin. I really rather not have to go through any more surgeries. Thanks!
I started at 239 prior to surgery and have lost 126 lbs. to where I now weigh 112 lbs....it seems unbelievable for me to type that here...but it is true thanks to this tool. When I originally got down to the 112 lbs. mark my skin was pretty gross on my arms and stomach...I have been at the 110-112 lbs for about 5 months now and it is starting to get better. I am hopeful that another 6months at this weight and it will be even better than it is now...I like you do not want to go through any more surgeries. I would like to have a breast lift but I doubt that I will ever have the funds to do so....that's ok...I am happy with what I have got!!!!!
Thank you Lord from whom all blessings flow!!!

not everyone has to look into plastic surgery. It really does depend on how much you have to lose, how old you are and how long you've been obese. The longer you've been obese and the more you have to lose, the more stretched out your skin will be. If you're younger, your skin will bounce back for the most part, because it still has its elasticity.
For me, I had 100 lbs to lose, I'm 21, and I've been overweight since I was 7 or 8. So I had the weight and my age on my side... but I've been overweight for so long that my skin is stretched a little. It's not so bad that a tummy tuck and a theigh lift is the only way to go, but there is some skin there. I don't think I'll actually opt for plastic surgery unless I come into some money that I don't have anything better to do with... because the skin I do have is easily pushed around and hidden, so it's no big deal for me. However, if you have more to lose, it's probably a much different story.
I'm not at goal yet but I'm getting close. I started at 273, would like to get to 135-150. I'm currently 165, a loss of about 108 lbs. I'm also 50 years old and my skin isn't as elastic as it used to be. My arms do flap a little but isn't bad enough that I need them done. My chin is starting to firm up, I've been doing chin exercises almost daily. My boobs do sag alot but with a good bra I look ok. My abdomen is flabby but no more so than when I weighed 273 so it has shrunk. I doubt I will ever have a flat tummy unless I do have PS. However, at this point, I'm not planning on it unless it becomes a medical problem. My thighs are a little flabby but again, not bad enough for PS. If I DID have PS, it would be a breast lift and possibly a tummy tuck. I use cocoa butter on my skin daily and I try to exercise 3-5 days a week. I think caring for your skin and exercise will help but everyone is so different, that the elasticity of your skin will be the deciding factor.

Hi Brenda, I started at 260 lbs, weighed 239 morning of surgery and currently below goal at 122 lbs. Do I need plastic surgery? Probably but unless I come into lots of money I doubt it will ever happen. My arms bother me more than anything, I can cover the rest up with clothes. My tummy does have some sag (especially above the navel) but it really isn't any worse than when I was 260 lbs. Thighs have some sagginess on the insides, outer thigh look fine. Boobs look fine in a good bra .
As the others stated there are many factors that will play into weather PS will be needed.

I had PS but I had more to lose than you & am probably much older. Really, the percentage of people that have PS is very small. You just hear about it because we're willing to share. I did it because it was causing me body image problems. I really was getting down about the way I looked. For me it was necessary, in my eyes.

I started at 316# and I am now 175#. I am trying to drop another 15#.I am 50 yr old so yes I have some sagging. I do not plan to have plastics. I look better than I have for 20 yr. I look good in clothes. I cover my arms. I wear capris not shorts. A good bra is a must. If my hernis needs repair I will consider a TT at the same time. It is a very individual thing. My face did not wrinkle like I expected. Overall I am pleased. Somedays I pick myself apart but the skin issues I have are not enough for me to risk another surgery at my age.

Hi! I lost from 270 to 160, then bounced back to 180. I had been overweight (over 200) all of my adult life. I'm 48 now, and do have some sagging skin issues, but I can live with it. My tummy is loose, my thighs look like raisins, my arms are a little flappy, but in general it's not that bad, and I can deal. What I may not be able to deal with is my turkey neck and my sagging facial skin. This makes me look my age and then some, whereas when I was heavy most folks always thought I was about 10 years younger than I really am. So for me it's a vanity thing. If I can ever scrape together the money, I'll probably get something done with the face, and possibly the rest (if I hit the lottery!). If you're interested in learning anything about having PS done outside the country, there is a great website to explore (psjourneys.com). You have to join, but it's free. There is a lot of information there and stories (plus pics) about the great results that many are getting out of the country, at a fraction of what most docs in the states charge. I've been exploring for a while - may never do anything about it - but it's interesting to think about.
Best wishes!

I am 5'9" and I have lost about 130 pounds. I would 'like' to have plastics but currently I am trying to get pregnant so there is really no point in doing the tummy tuck thing and then stretch it back out LOL> You can see my profile where I have nekkid picts to show what a 35/36 year old lady looks like after the weight loss and without plastics.
