Anyone have problems with a stricture?

I'm 13 months post op...with a 192 lb. weight loss....and am still at the soft protien stage of eating. I was first diagnosed with a stricture at 4-5 months and ended up in the hospital for dehydration and to have the dilation. I've had six dilations so far, all out patient...and it looks like the opening is closing up again. My doctor told me that he doesn't consider surgerically correcting a stricture until at least seven dilations. Have any of you had a stricture and if so, what has your experience been? Have you had it surgically corrected or have you continued to have dilations? I would like to be able to eat more of a variety of foods but so far, am still ok with soft protiens.

Wow, sorry you are having to go through this. I would ask the doctor if he would wait for to do heart surgery until the 7th heart attack...sheesh, you are the first person I have seen (does not mean it has not happened) here that has had this done so many times. I wish I had an answer for you other than to throttle your doctor for cruel and unusual punishment.

Karen, I have a friend that has had 6 dialations and is still having problems. I'm sorry you to are experiencing this. Her stricture problems didn't start until 8 months post-op. Her surgeon is considering a revision now....he believes they will have to go in surgically to correct the problem.

Karen, when in doubt . . . GET A SECOND OPINION from another bariatric surgeon, one who does the surgeries almost daily. I would search for answers immediately. Missy.

Hi Karen! I had this exact problem with stricturing immediately after open RNY. Every 1-2 weeks I had scoping done and it did no good. I had at least 6 scopings over 2 months time. My surgeon did NOT hesitate to reopen me up and make the opening larger. I am now almost 4 years out and have never had a problem and have lost 130 lbs and have never gained it back. Insist on having your Surgeon fixing the problem or find another surgeon. You cannot live like that! It is absolute misery! Good luck.
