protien drink
I use a powdered drink and make it in the morning before I leave for work. I use one of the water bottles from the day before to store it in. I have also used a premixed one...its more calories than the powder but tastes good....its called Muscle Milk. I found it in Vitamin shoppe store and it was recommended by a support group member. Comes in Vanilla, Chocolate and Cookies and Cream.
I absolutely LOVE AchievOne -- 120 calories for 9.5 ounces, 20 grams protein and 5 grams carbs. It is a caffine-based drink though - tastes like a Starbucks frappacino.... It comes in four flavors - Mocha Java, Cappaccino, Hazel Nut and Vanilla Nut. Unfortunately, I have only been able to find it online at two places -- AchievOne.com and BariatricEating.com. Gets a bit pricy to ship but I still go thru two a day! Great pick up after the gym.
Good luck.
Hugs,
Nannette
I buy several low carb shakes that come in cans at Vitamin Shoppe. One is Pro Smoothie made by Nature's Best, 50 g protein per 15 oz can. Another one is RTD-51, can't recall who makes it right now, 15 oz can with 51 g protein. The third one is Worldwide Pure Protein with 35 g protein in 11 oz can. Isopure Zero Carb also comes in a 20 oz bottle, 40 g protein per bottle. None of them is cheap (around $3-4 per can/bottle). I try to stock up when they are on sale. Vitamin Shoppe's stores also have a sale table on the first of every month, so I try to stop in then to see what is on the table and buy whatever they have that might fit in with what I need.
I also buy 4-packs of the Stallone protein pudding at Vitamin Shoppe, $6.99 for 4 cans, 20 g protein per can. I like the lemon and the chocolate, although the banana isn't too bad, either.
I did buy the sampler pack from bariatriceating.com when I had surgery. That pack somes with a shaker (looks like a martini shaker) which I'm pretty sure you can buy separately, too. It has an inside strainer which helps in the mixing. That mixes them up pretty well, although they get a bit foamy.
Hope this helps,
Sue O.
Protein shakes are a very individual like/dislike thing. My personal favorites are as follows:
GNC 100% Whey Protein [chocolate; vanilla][20 gm/scoop]
IDS Banana [26 gm/scoop]
IDS Vanilla cinnamon [26 gm/scoop]
IDS Belgian Chocolate [26 gm/scoop]
Protein Delite White Chocolate Strawberry
Protein Delite Coconut Almond
All of the above mix instantly and have wonderful taste, without that gritty mealy sensation. I use a shaker glass instead of a blender to avoid making it too thick or foamy. You can also get the unflavored proteins and mix them into your foods and drinks. I will admit that I have never used the unflavored proteins and have no idea what they will do to the flavor and texture of your foods and beverages. I recommend getting a trial pack from bariatriceating.com [she includes IDS and several other brands] and from vitalady.com [she carries the champion whey stack brand]. You can get many different brands at wlssupplies.com at only $1.60 per sample.
*and* here are two links for FREE protein samples which were recently provided to us:

The Stallone Pudding is also quite tasty and has 20 grams of protein in each little can. It comes in four flavors and can be purchased at GNC by the can [like a sampler]. Bariatriceating.com has another brand of protein puddings, but then you got the shipping and handling expense going on there. Additionally, Isopure makes a ready to go clear liquid bottle in various flavors with 40 grams a bottle. It can be sipped an ounce at a time.
