Am I A Camel? Or am I a Wild Pig?

I am begining to wonder which. Saturday morning, as I do every morning, I weighed myself. Normal weight. Same weight I have been (give or take a smidge) for ages. Saturday I baked all day for Easter. Admittedly, I ate my fair share of cookie dough. Not the world's best food choice, but I digress. Sunday I did not weigh in, due to the cookie dough episode of the day before, and knowing that it was Easter and I wouldn't be the best little eater that day anyway. Ok, again, not the best course of action, but it is the truth. Yesturday, at Easter, I ate considerably more carbs, sugar and salt than I normally do - it being a big family gathering/holiday and all. I admit that as well. But I did not eat enormous portions. I did not take a spoon and eat directly from the salt dish or the sugar bowl. I did not even eat till I was so full I felt sick. I grazed on some appitizers, ate my normal sized portion of dinner, had a few more cookies for desert. This morning I get on scale. Shoot me now. Please. It says I gained 10.2 pounds. TEN POINT TWO POUNDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How the F*&% is that even phsically possible ?!?!?!?! How??? Can a human being actually retain that much water??? I will admit a few of them probally are real pounds from the cookies, but 10.2 - over the couse of what 72 hours??? I am concerned to the point I think there is something wrong with me. Like maybe I should submit myself for scientific study or something. Is there anyone else that has experienced something like this? Is there any explination? Help! Lisa

Who doesn't love to live off cookies???? So long as he has a good metabolism - unlike me - he will probally be fine. My hubby is the same way. I was planning on leaving him several batches when i go for plastics in July. The poor things, they do need something to comfort them while we are out of commission. Take care, Lisa

I think a camel! A pound of water weighs almost 8 lbs. I think. Plus, I think the gravitational pull is stronger that at other times . I've actually gotten up during the middle of the night, weighed myself, went back to bed, then weighed myself a couple of hours later and actually weighed more! Never had anything to drink/eat and I also pottied!

I like the gravitational pull idea. Perhaps my bathroom has become highly polarized? It could happen! I will submit myself for study and alert NASA. There is obviously something wrong with me! Thanks! Lisa

I vote Camel. Carbs require more water to process through your system and if you did not up your water you are retaining. Start drinking some green tea and add fresh lemon to your water and it will help flush out the additional water. Mary

Does the fresh lemon really work? Have you tried it? I have heard that several times before. I will give it a shot tonight. Thanks for your help. Lisa

I feel your pain! A couple of times in the past few months, I have gained five pounds all of a sudden. Well, yesterday morning when I weighed, I was up eight freaking pounds from last week! I feel so fat! (even though I still have on size 4 capris today) This morning, I was down three, but still up five. I know that it is a lot of water weight, but the last couple or three weeks, I have been to several social events and ate stuff I don't normally eat, plus drank more adult beverages that I needed to! This morning, I am trying to get on a regime of protein shakes, protein and salads. I will NOT let it stay, it is not welcome. I have maintained within five pounds up and down for over a year now and am comfortable with that. I am not, however, comfortable with five more pounds. My clothes are all tight and I will not go buy bigger sizes! Good luck to you in getting it off. It can be done, I have done it several times. If I see the weight creeping up, then I slow down on my eating. Angie

Hello! Thanks for your response. I am in the same boat. I have been the same weight - give or take 3 to 5 pounds - for over a year now. That 3-5 pound flux is my max allowed, after that my clothes don't fit, I feel awful - you know what I mean. I recently celebrated my 1 year wedding anniversary. Hubby and I went to the Amish country for a long weekend. Let me tell you, the Amish have never heard of low carb. Or heart healthy. Or any of the eating reccomendations of the AMA. The food was homemade, delicious, and FATTENING. I discovered that they really only have 5 food items - Fried Chicken, Fried Fish, Mashed Potato, Bread Stuffing & Gravy. After 3 days of this, imagine my horror when i got home and weighed in. 13.2 pounds!! In 3 days!! I swear I am some freak of nature. They should submit my metabolism for study, it is equivalent to a snail's. NONE of my clothes fit. I had to dig out the size 4-6 things I was saving for after plastics - and they BARELY cover my bulging. So it is back to weighing and measuring. Walking and the elliptical. Counting every morsel until I am back to normal. Wish me luck. Lisa
