My surgeon and Bounce Back!

First of all congrats on surpassing the surgeons expectations. I love when that happens. As for his research, yes many post ops bounce back up and some regain. Also Some don't. I'm 5 years out and haven't had any "expected" (I hate that term) regain. I know some post ops who are farther out than I am-7 and 10 years out. Even a woman who had close to our RNY 27 years ago. The 7 and 10 year out vetrans haven't regained from goal and stick to a good diet and exercise plan with a 7-8 pound leeway either way before getting back to basics. The woman who's 27 years out gained 20 pounds inthe last couple years but she's in her 70's and can't move as much as she used to. My doc told me he expects NO rebound weight gain. He says it's permission to do so and if I get to goal-which is a bit higher than the insurance charts anyway, that's fine and that's where I am to stay. If I get below a healthy weight he would want me to get back up to where I'm better off but as for staying at my goal, he expects me to work at it with portion control, good foods and exercise. With that in my arsenal he says I can be successful for many years and years. That's what I go by - being told I can or will gain gives me permission to go back to bad habits because my doc said it's going to happen anyway. I won't do that - I worked too hard to get where I am. You sound like you have too. You can be the exception to your doc's rule and then he'll have new statistics to work from. Congratulations on your success! Myrtle.
