I posted on the main board and have not had a response from anyone first hand, so here is the question: I have never taken this stuff even for my WLS. But for my hernia repair I am required to take it. My question is have you had it since WLS? Did it affect you differently than before WLS? I am wondering if it starts working faster, if it works stronger etc. since our insides have been rerouted...Thanks.

Hello Angie - Ive never tried it, so I don't know what to tell you. HOWEVER, I can say, the farther out I get ...the LESS 'reactions' I have to foods, drinks, medicines, etc. Things that bothered me at 2 weeks post op, have little to NO reaction at 2 or 3 years post op. Example: A shot of Nyquil woulda' sent me straight to my knees, the first year out, but now? Doesnt even phase me ANYMORE then it did, prior to my surgery. That being said, however the Magnesium Citrate might have affected you early out, should not be the same reaction at almost 2 years out. I'm not a doctor, couldnt even get a cyber-degree to play one online - so I by no means can predict how your body will react to it.

Thanks for that info. Benadryl still affects me very fast. I dont have any expierence with many other medications so I will just have to take a little at a time of this stuff, so that I dont get into too much trouble the day before surgery...

Is this the strong tasting stuff that cleans you out? I took this before my cancer surgery. I bought some stuff that was very cheap and tasted very sweet, and it was carbonated. My brother told me it tasted like a wine cooler. I thought it was the most awful stuff I've ever tasted. I didn't realize it was sweet and carbonated until late at night, when I couldn't get a hold of my doctor. I don't drink carbondated drinks, and sugar is iffy. Please check with the pharmacist or doctor during the day about the INGREDIENTS so it doesn't catch you by surprise like it did me. It made me very sick. I went through the surgery fine, but I had trouble keeping anything down in the hospital due to this stuff. It took me a week to get back on track. Avoid the very sweet stuff in the dark bottles. I would stick to the normal flavors. Good luck -- I'm sure you'll do great! Joni

Yes that is the same stuff. OTC, green bottle. I dont drink carbonation either. Sugars dont bother me. But I have never pushed the sugar either. Do you remember if you drank the whole thing? I am thinking I might try a little at a time and see how it reacts...

Yes I had a colonoscopy three months after my RNY & they wanted me to take Fleets Phospha Soda. No way !! I could not abide that mess. So I took a magcitrate. Worked just fine. No problem. Still tasted nasty as ever but I could drink it without throwing up. Good luck

I drank the whole thing -- within about a half an hour. I hope it doesn't affect you the way it effected me. Joni

Hi Angie ... I took it before a small bowel xray series ... not realizing it was carbonated ... man ... the first swig and I felt it. It was hard getting it down due to the carbonation and taste ... but the sweetness didn't make me dump. Hey Joni ... what kind of wine coolers has your brother been drinking? lol Karyn
