Thought I was rid of my
Reflux, GERD, and all that stuff....but it seems my doctor sees the symptoms I have as indigestion. I am hoping that is all it is, because the last thing I want to do at this time in my life is have a heart attack.
I need to know if anyone here has taken PROTONIX since having WLS. The description says it is a Delayed-Release Tablet....does this work for us?
Any input will be appreciated...and I apologize if this question has already been muddled over, discussed a lot, or just mentioned before...cuz I missed it or didn't pay attention.
Thanks,
Joyce
My only experience w/ Protonix is a 30-day therapy immediately following surgery. I suspect that would function like most of the PPIs (proton pump inhibitors). I guess it did the trick, but I've never had GERD; the stuff was in play simply to keep GI acidity under control while healing was occuring.

I was on Nexium prior to WLS for acid reflux/GERD. It's an extended release tablet, so if you missed it for a day or so you wouldn't notice but by the 3rd day I'd be sorry. About a month or so after WLS I went off of it as an experiement, thinking since the foods I eat and the amounts were so drastically different maybe I didn't need it. And so I was "cured" for about 5 mnths untill I had surgery for a bowel obstruction due to scar tissue gone bad. Post surgery the "hunger pains" seemed to be at the wrong time, tums would make them stop, so my surgeon put me back on the Nexium. My PCP agreed with her and keeps my prescript current and says it will probably be for life. As before if I miss a day its okay, because I think it's still working on the extended/delay mode..but by day 3 I get reminded. So for me and my plumbing I'd say it works post WLS, but you really won't know till ya try it ...it always sucks to be the exception to the rule and to find out after the fact. Good Luck.
