I'm 3 years out from RNY, and until now, haven't thrown up once. I've occassionally gotten things stuck, but that's few and far between. OK, don't yell . . . . Wednesday night I had a beer, in the midst of my pleasant little buzz I must have raided the refrigerator (found the dish in the sink) but don't remember doing it. I also got something stuck, but don't remember doing it, that is until I woke up half way thru the night sick as a dog, and spent the rest of the night trying to get it out. Well, long story short, I'm still not feeling good. I can get clear liquids down, but nothing else. Has anyone else experienced anything like this? My stomach actually feels sore. Appreciate any and all input. Thanks! Linda

Hi linda I am over 2 yrs out from RNY and just last week I got so stuck on baked chicken I had to drink adolph's meat tenderizer in warm water to help get it out. My Dr. Said back to the basics for 24 hrs, so I stuck to liquids only for 24 hrs. After that I was back to normal. You need to give your pouch time to relax. Throwing up alot puts a strain on it. I hope you feel better. Karen

Linda, I am 4 years out from open RNY and I don't throw up either. My surgeon told me after my RNY that I didn't have the "mechanism" any longer to be able to throw up. If I get sick, I just have to suffer until it passes. I had food poisoning and it took 4 long days for me to feel better because I couldn't get rid of it. If I want to pass things through, they go through the other direction...sorry about that..didn't want to gross anyone out. My brother had the same surgeon, same surgery, but he can throw up at the drop of a hat. Don't know why some are different, but it takes all kinds I guess. If food gets stuck or doesn't settle, I need to lay down and hope for the best. A nap always helps. Hope you feel better soon. Carla

I got a piece of salmon stuck like that and ended having to have it removed after it was stuck for over 24 hours. Not big deal. They knocked me out for it. Hope you feel better soon. Try the meat tenderizer. It does help. Hugs, Bridget

OUch. You know my last ( and it will be the last - lesson learned) foray into alcohol ended the same way. I didn't have anything stuck, but the drink make me so sick and I felt bad the next day too, and a little afraid to eat much. My gut felt sore, I was in a lot of pain. Can you say DUMPING! it was the worst dumping episode I ever have had in 3 1/2 years post op. the only one that has made me so nauseated. I didn't puke, but I considered sticking my finger down my throat and forcing it I felt so bad. Rest your tummy and if it is not better eally soon, call the Dr. I find if I feel bad, warm decaf or herbal tea is the best thing to sip. for whatever reason, since surgery my belly prefers warm liquids over cold.

I am not one to throw up much, either. Since surgery, I have thrown up 3 times - once was a stomach flu and the others foods that just didn't settle well. Last week, my dh had Chinese food and I ate (I swear!) 5 bites - a bite of egg roll, a small boneless spare rib (3 bites chewed well) and a bite of crab rangoon. I was in agony for an hour and then threw up for 1/2 hour but oh my poor pouch. It was days before I was okay again. Needless to say, no more Chinese food for me...ever... Judi 261/160
