So I actually purchased FitdayPC because I want to track stuff. We can discuss my OCD later... the question is, WHY are sugar grams not listed? I've looked at tons of different foods, all of which I know contain sugar, but sugar is missing from all of the nutritional lists. Am I missing something? Please tell me I'm just being blonde, and point me in the right direction Michele xposted to main list

I have e-mailed this very question to them. Never got an answer. Of all the things I have to monitor, sugar is surely one of them. I can't figure this out at all. Maybe if there are enough complaints, someone will change Fitday. They monitor "sugar alcohols"! We don't need that one. I would definitely write, call or e-mail them, although e-mails don't seem to mean a fig to them in my opinion. Good luck. Marilyn

Hi Marilyn, I forgot to post that they did respond to my email and said they don't track sugar. And I said, what about all the diabetics out there? They said if I want my money back, they will gladly refund me within 30 days. Someone on the main board suggested that I use the alcohol area to track sugar. I guess that will work, but it sure is inconvenient! I want to know what the sugar content of food is, it's like the first thing I look at. I'm still looking around at other programs, I will post if I find anything better for us. Michele

It seems to me that I tried to put the sugar content in the "alcohol" section and it didn't work. If you find out how to do this, please let me know. Thanks. Still don't understand Fitday's premise. Thanks for your reply. Marilyn

Most ( not all) diabetics are instructed to count carb grams, not sugar grams. most simple carbs react so simalarly to sugar on the blood sugar levels that they dont really differntiate. Our issue is different. (at least for me) I look at sugar grams so I wont dump. I track my carb count, but not my sugars separately because my total is not so important as I limit each serving so low that I know my total has to be low. I look at labels and to be honest I dont really worry about the sugar # in my fruits, milk etc, because I don't dump on them. just count the carb total. Does that make sense??? I was looking at a diet plan for a diabetic at work one day and her carb count was to be 150 grams a day for her low carb diabetic diet.

In the online fit day they have a section for alcohol, but that is the drinkable kind, and has a 7 cal/gram count. does not count as carbs which are 4 sugar alcohols chemically are not alcohol and the calorie count also on thosealso vary. they range (if I remember right 2-4 cals/ gram) and since they are less sweet than sugar, they have to use more, which is why products w. sugar alcohols hae equal or more cals than the regular products.

You can't put the sugars in the alcohols. Alcohols count for a different number of calories than sugar, and the total calories entered for a custom food entry won't work out correctly. Is there a field for something like cholesterol or calcium that you could use instead? I've not used it for a month or so and my memory is horrible! Fitday does track carbs as total carbs - fiber carbs = effective carbs. But, you're right, there is no special field for sugar. Another alternative is calorieking.com. It is $39.00 per year to maintain a food journal online (as well as use other things), and their food database is pretty robust. Some folks in my support group have downloaded the program to their PDAs. Sue O.
