I will be leaving Sunday to drive 8+ hours to have facial plastic surgery. I will be in the hospital 1 night, and in a hotel for another 5 or 6 days. What should I take with me for my comfort, medical recovery needs and food. Thanks in advance for your help & suggestions! Vickie J.

When I travel, I always take a small kettle for flavoured teas, instant soups and instant oatmeal. This gives me the option of not going out to eat. If you think you might not feel like going out, it might be a good idea for you. Best wishes for a very successful procedure. Karen G

I'm sure I will not feel up to going out to eat and certainly won't look good enough to leave the room. I will have a small microwave in the hotel room so I plan to take some Cream of Wheat, grits, oatmeal, soup, etc. Vickie J.

Wow! Hope it all goes fabulously! Check to see if you will have a small fridge in the room as well as a microwave. You could hibernate for a long time with those options! If not, a small cooler would be handy and you can always get ice at the hotel. I'd consider foods that are easy to eat in case your face hurts too much to do much chewing: yogurt, soup, instant cereal, small cartons of milk, bottled water, straws, fresh lemons or limes already cut up for your water. Take comfy clothes and your own pillows and any other things that will make your surroundings more comfortable. If your eyes are swollen, reading may not be a comfortable option, so how about checking out books on tape/CD and bringing along a player. Can't wait to see your new face. Have a safe journey, fast and restful recovery. Anewme

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm taking a boom box and CD's so I'll have something to help me relax. I"m going to the grocery store to stock up on "hotel" food. Vickie J.

Ask the hotel if they have a recliner for your room. Depending on what kind of surgery you have, sleeping in a recliner may be more comfortable than in a bed if you have a TT.

They don't have a recliner, but do have a soft. I figure I may be better off sleeping on the sofa so I won't be tempted to turn over & sleep on my side (a no-no after facial plastic surgery). When I have my LBL, I will try to find a hotel with a recliner in the room. Thanks for the suggestion! Vickie J.
