Hello, I have 32 lbs left to lose. I started at 326 and 1 yr later weigh 162. Total lose 164lbs. Yea...but i need tolose 32 more lbs to get to my personal goal of 130lbs. My question is... Is this doable with only 6 months left in those magic 18 months? I seem to be at a standstill or pretty darn close. My intake is about 800-1000 calories a day and i was excersising regularly until i broke my tailbone. Now i am really afraid that with the decreased activity my weight loss might stop. My dieticiaqn said to increase my calories, but the more i eat the more i want. So i figure who better to ask my thin dietician who has never lost an ounce or my weight loss successors who have struggled like me. Is this a doable amount? SHould i increase my calories? ANy other suggestions. Thanks, MElinda

I have been trying to get 1200 -1300 cal/day The trick for me is eating the right fods. I tend to eat too many carbs so I am working on increasing protien and then I do not crave carbs. It is not easy for me to kep on track with this. laurie

Melinda - Yes, you can do it! I think you need to increase your calories. I just finished a health class and was taught that on any diet you should never let your calories drop below 1200 (of course that doesn't work at first with bypass surgery). If you drop your calories too low for too long then you become metabolic resistant and your metabolism slows down drastically and your body tries to conserve what it is given. I bet that if you up your calories for one week you will see a loss. Give it a try. What do you have to lose? I've been through this several times myself and upping my calories always works. Except now I'm having to lower my calories. haha We just have opposite problems. Good luck! Lily

I'm in the same boat. My scale hasn't moved since November and I still hve 30-50 to go. I've been upping my exercise, decreasing my carbs and upping the protein. I try to restrain myself to 1200 calories, I could so easily to much higher than that (where I've already demonstrated that I can maintain there). Wish I had a good answer for you, as I've not found the answer for myself. Good luck, sue O.

It IS doable!!! You can do it. I was going to say the same thing~sounds like you need to up your calories a bit. And, the 18mth "window of opportunity" is just a guide~that doesn't mean that you will automatically stop losing weight at that point~I've read where lots of people here have continued to lose after 18mths. Keep doing what you've been doing to get to this point~protein, water, exercise~and you WILL make it!!!!!! Hugs, Tracy B 328/159 5'9"

My loss came to a screeching halt over a year ago, 25 lbs from my dr's goal & 15 from mne. I haven't lost in a year. I can't figure out why I can't lose. I am following my dr's rules, get in enough water, protein, limit snacking, exercise daily but no loss. This last weekend I decided to write down everything I eat so I can take the diary to the dietician. Yikes, I was eating only 800 calories! I'm keeping track & will see if I'm always that low. I'm scared to increase my calories because I find it very easy to add pounds when I do. Dixie

Hi, Melinda. I would have to agree with some of the other posters, that you probably need to increase your calories a little bit. 800-1000 seems a little too low, and as someone else said, it is definitely true that when we go too low, we only do ourselves a disservice by slowing our already snail-like metabolisms even further. Also, I don't know how you can survive on only eating that much! LOL I know we are all different, but when I track my eating on fitday.com I usually find that I'm around 1900 calories a day, and to me that doesn't seem like overeating. Of course, I have also reached a point where I would like to get about 8-10 pounds back off, and I know that decreasing calories is a first step, but I'm not going to be able to go real low with that, knowing myself as I do. I also know that I need to be getting regular exercise, something that I am not good at disciplining myself with. Congrats on your wonderful success thus far, and best wishes as you try to lose those last pounds. Carlita 270/160/178 (current)
