GASTRIC ULCERS, STILL..Kind of long!!!
Hello to everyone. I'm usually a lurker but need to get advise and vent. I am 14 months out as of yesterday and have lost #111 as of this morning. I have been having trouble when I eat or drink. I alway get sick to my stomach with very little in it and about half the time vomit. I even get sick on water.
I had a large gastric ulcer removed Sept. 27, 2005 with a revision done with two smaller ulcers that they thought that Carafate and Prevacid would take care of. Well the meds. haven't done a thing. I went to GI Dr. last Friday and had an Endoscopy done. It seem that I still have to two gastric ulcer that haven't responded to the medicines and they are quite a bit larger. GI Dr. said that as far as he is concerned, my only option is another surgery to have them removed.
Last surgery they removed 1/3 of my pouch! So now it's down to 2/3 original pouch size and they want to take more. RNY Surgeon assistant said something about a feeding tube! NO WAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have lost #11 lbs. in the last 2 weeks ( which I had gained after last ulcer surgery) and am really starting to look like a skelleton. I am in a 1/2 pants and XS or S tops. I have called the RNY Dr.
waiting to here from him since last Friday and getting very irritated. His assistant that I seen last week said will need surgery. So, WHEN'S THE DATE?
Okay, I'm done. Just tired of being sick all the time and am very impatient on finding out if for sure surgery again or not. Please don't flame me today. Don't think I can handle it!
Thanks for listing,
Sheila

New Surgery?????????????????????????????
Good gracious--why would you think someone would flame you? I am sorry you are having this problem. I can not imagine them removing more of your pouch-seems to me that they will likely have to revise your surgery--but what do I know--I'm not a doc. Have they put you on nexium? I was under the impression that was stronger than the prevacid. I hope things improve for you soon.
Lynda,
Thanks for the reply. The Carafate is a liquid that is suppose to beat all but not in my case. The Dr. assistant said something about a feeding tube because last time they took out the other ulcer, the did a revision and transected old stomach. Hopefully will hear from surgeon today.
Thanks,
Sheila
