23 months post op and hair loss
I need some input. I am 23 months post op. My hair fell out as expected from 3-6 months post op. It came back a little thinner and wavy. Just this month I got back on track with my protien and vitamins after sporatic use. My hair is thinning! My periods returned. I am almost 50 so I figure I am getting peri- menapausal again. I guess it could just be the change to my system. Any thoughts on this? I am not freaking out about it just curious if any other grads have had this experience. Had my labs done Friday. No results yet.
Thanks,
Laurie
Laurie, every time my protein gets low, I start losing hair even at three years post op. I have always had to drink two shakes a day because i can't eat a lot of meat and sometimes I just get tired of it and stop or cut back to one and sure enough, my hair comes out. it is coming out right now. God forbid, I should get my periods after all these years.
Thanks for your reply. I do think I need to have a shake everyday. I get out of the habit because I do eat protien but when I track on fitday I am always on the low side.
Oh yes, the periods! I went 5 months without one and was getting used to it. The last 2 months they returned. Guess my body is changing again. I think everyday is an experiment. I am not complaining. I feel 100% BETTER.I was just hoping someone else experienced this and I am not an anomaly.LOL

I missed periods last year from January thru May, then they returned when I had cytomel added to my synthroid regimen, don't know if there was a correlation or not. Now I've started missing periods again.
As far as hair loss, I did not lose more than normal immediately after surgery. I do notice now that I'm 15 months out that the center top of my head seems thinner than the surrounding areas. My hairdresser says the same thing about her hair, and she has not had WLS. We're both 51.
I had been eating 100 g protein daily until a couple of months ago when my surgeon told me to cut it in half. I cut down to 70-80 g daily, but have recently bumped it back up. I feel better, but haven't been doing it long enough to notice any effect hair-wise.
Maybe there is more than WLS going on here.
