I am 23 months post op and have lost 126 lbs, which has me below goal.
I am 5'10 and weigh 160-165lbs. My problem is that even weighing what I do, I am very boney. If it were not for a little excess skin, I would be literally skin and bones. I have no muscle mass left. My biggest problem is the terrible pain in my tailbone. It hurts every day just to sit. I went from having quite a bit of "junk in my trunk" to a flat bum. (i hate it)
I lost all my weight within about the first year, so it was fairly fast and I think I lost waaay too much muscle mass. Even though I weigh 160, I am bony. My chest and rib cage is very bony because I dont have hardly any muscle. I was curious if any of you have a problem with pain when sitting or exptreme loss of muscle. I am not as diligent as you guys are w/ keeping up with the grams of protein I eat but I try to get in a lot. I do protein shakes still and I drink Carb Solutions milk w/ protein. My tailbone has no protection so it presses on whatever I am sitting on.
I guess maybe if I would get motivated and exercise, perhaps I could build up some bum muscles. Any suggestions.
Thanks.
Trish
I live with tailbone pain. And I know it's no fun... I have special cushions at home, work, and in the car and they help some. I haven't been to the doctor about it because I'm not really thrilled about the prospect of getting shots or surgery to fix it... here's a website with lots of great info:

Now, you REALLY need to concentrate on the protein. You DO NOT want to lose muscle... remember, the HEART is a muscle!!!

Hi Trish, first off congratulations on your success and maintenance.
I to deal with tailbone issues very day, I have absolutely zero padding in that area. Again like you, I've lost lots of muscle, last time I checked with my surgeon (his scale measures muscle also), I'd lost 26 lbs of muscle, let's just say it isn't a good thing.
I am investigating home exercise equipment for both cardio and strength to hopefully build muscle back and remain healthy.
The large amount of muscle loss is lack of protein, my surgeon is against protein shakes (wants protein from food only) and didn't allow them. Now that I'm further out, I do at least 3 protein shakes a day....I still can't get enough protein from food and I do not want to lose any more muscle.
Please start tracking your protein intake. I use www.fitday.com, the free version and love it.

Time to hit the weight training. I actually put on 8-10 pounds when I started working out regualrly, but my pants feel better. My butt was pretty flat and is a nice little slightly rounded one now. many, many hours on the precor cross ramp in the gluteal mode, also I hear the stair stepper is real good for that too.
I still get some tailbone pain, and when my sciatica flared pretty bad both my pcp and ortho said it was from losing weight, that the nerve no longer has the padding it used to.
You are also at the point where many people put on a little rebound weight. I was told to expect to regain about 10% of what I lost. So far it hasn't happened, but I am not skin and bones either. (4'11", 135 pounds and a size 8, and my BMI is 27, so I am overweight. And happy as hell about where I am and how far I have come)
