Whole New Day for PS problems!

Well, A day (and a busy one at that) Later, And my PS question is resolving. Thanks to all *****sponded here, e-mails and on the mainboard. I was really bummed-out by that Dr.'s appointment. But now? Onward and Upward! I've decided to take the "Dick Cheney Approach." Not just a Second Opinion, But find several Drs. willing to discuss the risks and options. Yes, it'll cost me a little to do multiple consults, but A little more cash is worth it. I'm not looking to settle for continued rash / bleeding problem, and I don't want to be "finished" with my whole weight loss "journey" Only to have a stroke from a blood clot from my heart valve. I'm looking to get a consensus from Plastic Surgeons Rather than just- "The Answer I Think I Want to Hear." To that end I've called and sent out e-mails To about 75 Docs today, specifically asking them If- 1. They are experienced with WLS Post-ops, 2. They take insurance (I was surprised how few do, even when the coverage is total) 3. They have experience with patients who were on Coumadin., 4. They have experience with patients with large internal mesh. 5. Willing to discuss the risks and their recommendations in a consult. So far, 4 Drs. have confirmed or e-mailed me back for consult appointments. On top of that, I'm going to a "Second Opinion" Dermatologist. My present Dermatologist was the one who originally told me that- "This will continue to be a serious problem unless you have the redundant skin removed." So He Says! Maybe there's another skin Doc out there With another approach. Worth a try. I've put in a call to my PCP to discuss the risks, very seriously, About moving off and on Coumadin for a surgical procedure. As many times as I've done it, I don't know "the numbers." And, being a firm believer in the odds, I'd like to know. If I proceed with the PS, it looks like Atlanta may be the target location. I have access to an empty, yet furnished house there Where my family and I could go for an extended Vacation this summer. So, What am I missing? Anyone out there have a great Anti-Rash treatment? (And I've been through several.) Any one know of Doctors in large Metro Areas who accept insurance for PS? That's been the trickiest. So, as always, tomorrow is another day! Back to my buoyant and determined self! It helped that this morning my wife said- "I know even though you put on a happy face, You're down about the doctor yesterday. We'll get through this and figure it out. This is nothing after what we've come through!" Oh Yeah! She's a keeper! Best Wishes- Dx

DeeDee, Right now, after a "Whole Day" of determined searching, Atlanta is in the lead. I have full-unrestricted access/use of a "summer home" there. We lived in Atlanta for about 14 years, so the idea Of going over during the summer break from school And having a little vacation with some plastic surgery on the side Is appealing. Still working to get to the bottom of the "Coumadin Dilemma" first. Is it safe or not? If so (or Not) What's the Odds. Should have some of those answers by mid-next-week. I'll keep all the info in a folder for you!! Best Wishes- Dx

J, "Shooting" is so Negative! I think the "Term D-jour" is "Peppered." The Shotgun approach of course. Wait, I mean, "Bird shot, B-B's" Approach. So much more pleasant, don't you think? Give me a few days to think about how to phrase it. Then I'll get it out to the press. Best Wishes- Dx *yes, I'm under this chair, but I'm giggling really loud!*

I don't know if this helps -- but have you also looked at other Bariatric surgeons? My surgeon performs TT's/panni removals - he actually will include them when he performs hernia repairs once patients are at goal & he is very qualified. Maybe there is one in your area that does the same. I would think you would have better luck finding a bariatric surgeon who could submit the request through insurance. Just a thought -- and yes!! Your wife does sound like a keeper! Kristin

Kristin, I'm adding that Idea to my list. I'll have to ask my surgeon what he thinks about it. Thanks, Best Wishes- Dx

I like they way you tick....Its good that you were able to dust off and move on so quickly. I admire that....I wish I could do that~ Lots of luck with this endeavor. You are committed to success and researching it to find the truth is the only way. Your wife sounds like my husband. Its good to have such a wonderful support person in the house! Debbie
