A seroma named Fred

I've named my seroma - Fred. Since it's taken on a life of it's own, it needed a name. I've had it drained twice since last week. 750 cc and 350cc. And Fred is busy spawning more alien beings (aka fluid). Have another draining session tomorrow. Hope that pretty much does it. Getting tired of running to the surgeon. It's an hour away. Altho, I really like him. The receptionist wrote down the reason I'm coming in as - Fred is spawning aliens. Should get an interesting look or two from the rest of the office staff since they don't know I've named it!

Hi Lyn, I looked up a seroma and I couldn't find anything specific to WLS... is this a reaction to something having to do with your WLS? And where is it? Could this mean an approval for some PS??? Well I hope nothing is too painful for you. Good luck. Michelle

it is related to plastic surgery.

A seroma is a collection of serous fluid ( ever had a scrape and had that clear yellowish fluid ooze out, that is serous fluid) Kind of like a huge blister, that forms under ths skin with some surgeries, very common after plastic surgery. many people get them after TT, I had one after a hernia repair and am pretty sure I have one now, from liposuction on my lower thighs. WLS patients are more likely to get them after plastics due to the extensive nature of surgeries.

you are right. it is not specific to just WLS. Any time you have any type of surgery, you can get a seroma. I have had about 18 or 19 surgeries, some very major and I have had four or five seromas.

Lyn, I used to sing- *Da-da-da-duh-dah-Da - MY SEROMA!* Mine took about 7 months to shrink back down. Compression garment, ab-binder or such is very helpful! Mine was huge. over a liter and a half! Drained twice, then last time went into drain It had "organized," meaning it had coagulated into a solid That took longer to re-absorb. That took about 4 weeks for it to "set up." If yours is still increasing in size, stay on the Doc about it. Hope the best for you! Best Wishes- Dx
